Q: Spotting During Pregnancy

I am about six weeks pregnant and yesterday after I went to the bathroom I noticed some blood or discharge. It was actually brown not bright red but I was still freaked out. I spoke to the doctor over the phone and she said it might be better if it was that color but just to rest in bed until I could get to the doctor just in case. I am still freaking out until then. Has anyone else had this experience?

Dear hill,

keep your eye on it, any bleeding during pregnancy is enough to make anyone worry. If it starts to get heavy or bright red then you need to get yourself off to the doctor or hospital. I had a miscarriage about 3 months ago and I also had severe back and abdominal pains with the bleeding, so you may want to watch out for these signs aswell. In the meantime, take your doctors advice and rest. Keep in touch, we are all here to help.

Regards,

Well, bleeding is something you always want to see your Dr. About. But it's not always necessarily something to freak out about. 50% of all pregnant women will bleed and 50% of those women go on to have perfectly healthy full term pregnancies. Sometimes it can be breakthrough bleeding, or can be caused by stress. You definately want to make an appointment, to make sure, but don't get worried just yet.

Good luck
