My husband and I were wondering what the
doctor does with the placenta after it is
delivered... Does anyone know???
Thanks!

What Happens to the Placenta ? Posted: 09-28-03 17:30pm
Dear baby conrad,
hi, it's completely up to you as to what
happens to your placenta, you can allow
the hospital to dispose of it or you can
take it home with you. Personally that
won't be my choice when I have my bubby,
but we must keep an open mind to the
people who wish to do this. In some
countries it is their custom to cook the
placenta and the whole family eat it as a
celebration of birth and a source of rich
nutrients. Don't ask me why I really
don't understand it myself, but there are
many different religions and cultures out
there who have different ways of doing
things. There are also some cultures who
believe the placenta must be buried.
Really? Thats very interesting suzy. I
wouldnt think about anything like that
myself but that is quite extraordinary. I
dont know what the purpose of bringing it
home would be, but if you wanted to keep
it im sure you could!

Lol tanya, they taught us about it in
school, but it's certainly not my cup of
tea. The hospital will be disposing mine,
I don't feel any overwhelming need to bury
it or eat it. Ew kind of makes me feel a
bit sick when I think about it, guess we
just aren't conditioned to have those kind
of beliefs.
