Question About Period's And Pregnancy
Posted: 08-05-04 17:15pm

Can you concieve while on your period?? Say you have sex 3-4 day's before your period and he ejaculated in you. Can the sperm still fertilize the egg, espically if you have irregular period's. My cousin told me that she got pregnant with her first kid while while on her period. And she continued to have bleeding threw out her pregnancy. I know they say you ovulate on the 14th day after your period but is it possible to ovulate on like the 7th or 8th day?? Doctor has told me that yes some women do get pregnant while on there period's but I was hoping for some input from some of you guy's. Thank's :p

Hello it is indeed possible to get pregnant on your period if you
have irregular periods some woman its 28 some 32 and so on so
if you are on a even 23 day cycle then you would ovulate during
your period so never assume just because your on your period that you
can't get pregnant I have been a ob nurse for four years and have seen
young girls cry time after time because they say he only did it in me
while I was bleeding and well lets keep in mind sperm can survive for
five to seven days and just because your bleeding doesn't mean your
not ovulating I hope everything turns out the way you want it if you
have any more questions I will be happy to try to answer them

A 23 day cycle does not mean you will ovulate during you period.
I have a 24 day cycle and I ovulate bang on 12days before my period is due (well ok I did but now i'm pregnant I doubt i'm ovulating)
the usual rule of thumb is ovulation occurs approx 2 weeks *before* your period is due.
No not everyone is the same, and yes you can ovulate around the same time as your period but this is not very common at all.
Yes you can get pregnant when you have your period, but for most women this will not be a fertile time.

Hello kia_breizze you have an education in nursing you go by a
medical dictionary I can see where your getting your info and your
not even right half the time a lot of women ovulate on there period
two weeks after your period is a estimation and noting more especially
if your one of the unlucky ones who bleed all the time so you need to
get your info elsewhere or seek a degree in nursing like I have and
work in ob like I do

1 firstly do not get personal.
2 I do not own a medical dictionary.
3 to say I am not right even half the time once again makes me question the reality of your so called medical qualifications, and glad that I am not under your care.
4 I did not say every woman will ovulate exactly 2 weeks before her period but that it is considered a reasonable average.
5 are you one of the "unlucky ones"? Are you too scared to seek help? Are you jealous of what you do not know but wish you did? Did you fail medical school? Don't take it out on others Rolling Eyes

Okay, first of all it is pretty pathetic that you, miss nurse, need to come on as "guest" and belittle kia. Secondly, from your posts, it is obvious that you are not a nurse as you are not even slightly educated in the field of pregnancy. If you are a nurse then you really need to go back to school and pass your boards again! For goodness sakes. You really need to stop giving advice that is completely wrong! And besides, even nurses, don't go on every single post and say, "i know because I am a nurse" and blah blah.
Every woman ovulates at a different time. Yes you can get pregnant on your period and that is the only correct thing you have stated in this post so far. Sperm can live in a woman's body for 5-7 days and are still able to fertilize for 3-5 days. Therefore, you can have your period, and actually conceive five days after.
I advise all of you to not take advice from someone who does not know what they are talking about no matter who they claim to be. Beware! Take care!

Ok, its my turn to talk now! To start off with, I actually am in nursing school. If jeni were a real nurse she would know that nurses dont treat medical diagnoses, they treat human responses. So to start off with you shouldnt be giving out information that you arent supposed to be dealing with. Example...If someone on here says "i'm in pain blah blah blah" you shouldnt tell them "well thats because...." even if you do know what may be wrong. As a nurse your job is to treat the "human response" so you help find a way to deal with the pain. Does that make sense? Anyways...No, I dont think jeni is a nurse and if she is then I would love to know what nursing school she graduated from because they need to be shut down! As for working from a medical dictionary....Is that all you learned from? And I would hope that after "working ob for 4 years" you wouldnt have to continually look everything up. So jeni...You need to quit giving out false information.

Even though this was almost a month ago I would like to thank kia for being so smart. She's very helpful on this forum and I think we should applaud her for being kind enough to post on here and help others like me that stress out during this time in our lives. Also, I think kia is right in what she says and that nothing she ever has said to me seemed untrue. She's real and honest and she knows what she is talking about. I can attest to that. I have found things she's said and later found them in a book or two. So as far as i'm concerned jen needs to study up and "guest" needs to get a life and find something better to do Rolling Eyes . Thanks again kia for being so awesome! :d

Awwwwwww shucks honey, you'll make me blush.
Just one thing I can say to that, thanks.

I have also proved myself wrong and I did have the humility to post my findings and apologise to the original poster.
