*update Q* Should She Take Morning After Pill? Posted: 08-10-04 04:28am
Yesterday my girlfriend and I had sex with
condom and without condom but I pulled
out. (we always did with condom before)
next day she thinks she might've missed 2
pills from her cycle (last week) and her
period is due a week from now. Now we're
both worried and not sure whether she
should take the morning after pill. It
has many side effects. What are our
options or should we just wait til her
period comes (sometimes her period comes
even 4-5 days late)
any advice would be appreciated
thanks

The morning after pill does not have that
many side effects. You are just not
suppose to use it all of the time, or as a
form of b/c. Only in cases of emergency
which this seems like one. I would have
her take map and then you two need to be
responsible. Pulling out is not a method
of birth control. And the b/c pills are
only 99% effective if taken 100%
correctly. Therefore if you do not want a
baby you need to also use condoms.
Especially if she has been missing pills.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply...
Is there anything that can be done to
minimize the side effects? I heard
there'll be nausea and throwing up, etc.?
When's a good time to take the pill during
the day?

I don't think there is much you can do.
The morning after pill is just a high dose
of horomones that makes your body almost
toxic to a newly formed embryo, which
almost makes your body toxic to itself,
which is why the throwing up and nausea
occurs.

My gf's doctor told her to take 6 diane bc
pills, 3 now and 3 in 12 hours as the
morning after pill treatment. It's just
a birth control pill right?
Is that an effective morning after pill
treatment?

I replied to your post in the birth
control forum about using birth control
pills in the same way as the morning after
pill.
I took the morning ater pill & had no
side effects at all. Not everyone will
have side effects from these things

Yes, b/c pills can be used as the morning
after pill and is just as effective. Do
what the doctor says. I also did not
have any side effects when I used my b/c
pills as the morning after pill. It just
depends on the person. But, she needs to
do this asap as time goes by it will not
be as effective.

If the missed pills were over a week ago
there probably won't be a problem.
Example aug 1, 2, 3 take pills, aug 4, 5,
missed pills, aug 6, onwards take pills as
normal then have unprotected (no condom)
sex after aug 12 then the birth control
pills should be as effective as if none
were missed, providing you did not have
unprotected sex within 7 days of a missed
pill.
Remember if you do not want babies always
use a condom - preferably containing
nonoxyl-9 (or a spermicidal lubricant
containing nonoyxl-9) - do not use a oil
based lube with condoms it can perish the
rubber/latex

Hi, this is hurric's g/f...
Thanks for everyone's replies. The risk
of pregnancy wouldnt have been that great
since I actually took the first 5 days of
pills, missed 6 and 7, then took 5 more
pills and on the 6th day (of the 2nd week)
we had unprotected sex. Even the doctor
wasn't completely sure whether or not I
needed the map, but he said just to be
safe I best take it. He even said I can
take my regular pill (alesse) in addition
to the 6 bcp's as the map dose.
I took 2 gravol pills before my first
dose, and I literally fell asleep at my
desk at work! Later that night I had my
2nd dose and also take 1 gravol pill
before bed. I woke up and my chest felt
kind of uneasy, but it's been 4 hours
since I woke up and I am feeling a lot
better.
So much drugs in me can't be good for my
body oh well, at least
we don't have to worry about other
things...
Thanks for your help all.

I am glad that you took map. But, I do
need to know one thing. Your doctor did
tell you that you cannot take 5 b/c pills
at the same time just because you missed
some, right? If you miss even one pill
then you are at risk of pregnancy whether
you take two or three in one day or not.
Maybe you need to consider depo or the
patch. Good luck to you.

oh I know I took the 6 pills (3 at a time)
as the map. (same thing) hence emergency
contraceptive...
Maybe this will teach me a lesson to take
my pills more seriously and on schedule!
If it doesn't work out i'll talk to my doc
abt alternatives. I was going to
originally but she's on vacation for all
of august...
