Can anyone please give me advice on what
to do, this is how it happened
i am 19 years of age, I have been training
in wushu (acrobatic kung fu) and
gymnastics, I went to the park and
preformed a back flip which hurt my lower
back, but I payed no attention, then I did
a jumping twisting inside cresent kick,
which hurt like hell. I took two weeks
off training, then got back into it and
the pain struck again in form of nerve
pain mixed with muscle pain from the right
side of my lower back to hamstring, I also
had minor groin pain. This basically
developed into a pattern, I take time off,
the pain completely goes away, I get back
into training, pain comes back from doing
mostly twisting motions, it also hurts
like hell when I arch my back, or twist to
my left, or raise my right leg upto my
left shoulder, I have been going to the
physio, he told me the pain keeps coming
back because I have bad posture, he told
me to do some core training, I did that,
but I had doubts because I did not feel
like my join injury has healed, so a
friend suggested that I go to a
chiropractor, and that when the sacroiliac
joint injury occurs, the joints lock so I
need to unlock them, I went to a
chiropractor 3 times and each time he
twisted my back, and there was a cracking
noise, the third time I went he told me
that I must be well by now, and that the
inflamation is gone, he said I can get
back into training, so I did, and it hurt
like hell, but after those chiro visits it
realy felt like the pain turned more into
a muscle pain rathr then anything else,
but it is savere, which makes me think its
got to be something else besides muscles,
then again it might be just a bad muscle
pain, after training it really hurts no
matter what I do, even if I raise my leg
forward. I went back to the physio, he
said he doesn't like the idea of
chiropractor manipulating my joints, and
that if I practice core strengthening
exercies it will reduce the pain. I
asked him whether the core exercise
strengthens the core muscles, but he told
me it just stabalizes them, I can help
thinking how does stasbalizing these
muscles and getting a good posture going
to reduce my back pain. Its been 3 month
since I got the injury, the style of
martial arts that I do (wushu) is very
extreme and high impact, there is
absolutely no way I can train and improve
wih this pain, also this is very important
to me so I can't give up my training.
Sorry if it was too much to read, but
please help.

I have si joint disease. Just curious
how was it diagnosed? They could see the
joint space was getting smaller on x-rays
for me. They also did a test with a
radioactive dye a cat scan and a bone
scan. This test showed profound swelling
in the si joints. Unfortunately the
sciatic nerve runs right by it so it gets
impinged. I also have spinal stenosis
and bulging discs. I have had 2 previous
back surgeries. The first helped for
about 3 years the second didn't do a thing
or wosened my condition. I had cortisone
shots in the si joint both side 3 times
did not work for me. There is not much
known about the si joint some people
thing it moves other Dr.S think it is
stationary. The only real treatment is
to get cortisone shots to stop the
inflamation and slowly start stretching
and strengthing exersises. My shots were
done under fluoroscopy so they could guide
the needle accurately. It might work for
you. Many Dr.S are now convinced that
patients who complain of back pain and
could not find anything wrong with their
back think that the patients have si
related pain because it hits the sciatic
nerve. I think the dr can actually push
on a spot that is to the right and left of
your spine and pretty low and that gives a
pretty good indication. They just have
to barely push and I practically jump
through the roof. Also if you use a
lumbar support and it makes your back hurt
more that is a good indication. Sorry if
it is hard to read I take some pretty
strong pain meds, I am trying to lose some
weight before my next surgery. Hope this
helps is hard to sit for very long without
everything locking up.

Sorry to hear about your back pain, this
may help you. Take a look at www.Mattfurey.Com.
In his book "combat conditioning", there
are 2 exercises which are great for
treating back pain. First off is wall
walking, stand about 3 feet from a wall
and lean backwards and walk down the wall
with your hands until you reach the floor.
You should have no problem with your
wushu background, although its hard at
first because your back is probably too
tight!!!! The other exercise is called
bridging which you probably already
practice in gymnastics, but the bridge I
refer to is done on feet and forehead
only. These exercises are little known
and even lesser known for their treatment
of back pain!! But I assure you they do
work !!!!
I urge you to order the book combat
conditioning and try these exercises they
may solve your problem. Please act on
this post!!!!! Good luck..
