Telling Unsupportive Parents.....
Posted: 08-12-04 03:12am

Hi, my name is renee and I am 18. I am also approx. 11 weeks pregnant. I wanted some insight about telling my dad I am pregnant. My mom and brothers and friends all know, but my dad, who I dont talk to ever doesnt know. I want to ask him for help because I have it hard right now and hes totally able to help me out. The only catch is that we have always butted heads, and I think he will be extremely dissappointed in me for being so young and pregnant. My mom thinks I should just tell him, but because we dont ever talk im worried he will totally disown me. But then again I think since he doesnt talk to me now, what would it hurt to tell him right?

Please help me I could use some good insight. Confused

Yeah, I am with you on the second thought. If you two don't talk ever anyway, then what will it hurt? And you are 18. Legal adult. You are already pregnant and you cannot stop that, so just tell him. Just sit him down, tell him that you know you two butt heads, but that you still love him and you don't want him to be dissappointed in you. Then just tell him. He may seem angry at first, but he will learn to deal. He will just be worried about you that is all. Good luck.

Yes tell him you never know after the initial shock he may even like the idea and it might bring you two closer together. Can you not take someone with you while you do it? Like your mum?

I was really worried about telling my dad too! I'm actually 23 ( I was 22 when I got pregnant) so it doesn't seem like it should've been that bad but the kicker was that I wasn't married yet. He was a more than a little disappointed at first but he slowly came around. I didn't have a real strong relationship with either but now that his granddaughter is here he's like a totally different person. She has him wrapped around her little finger! We have become really close through this whole experience. I say you just tell him and maybe you'll be lucky enough to get a great relationship out of it like I did!
