If you get infected blood in an open wound
then you could get infected. If you get
a infected blood on a healed cut then I
really dont' think there is risk of
infection.
That is all I know.

Maybe this is just my "germ phobia" but I
always use the rule of thumb: if there is
contact with any amount of infected blood,
there is possibility of infection. If you
came in contact with anything, even if the
skin wasn't broken, i'd get tested.

i am working in a departmental store with
the petrol station.
There a lady customer came in asking for
band aid for her open would profously
bleeding. And I being and customer
service manager. Went out to help her and
tried to put band aid with bare hands with
full care so that no blood from her wound
can touch my hands... While washing my
hands I realised that my hand were dry and
there was bit of dry cracks on my tip of
my fingers, which were no open cracks or
painful was just due to dryness as u can
see sometimes in winter under ur palm,
then the thing which is worrying me is
there might be a touch of a drop of her
blood from her wound which must have
touched my finger tips right on the
cracks. And must have went in my blood
stream. I m worried please help!!!

You are probably okay. Had you had an
open wound (i.E. Huge cut or large
hangnail) then you would be more at risk.
Even if some of her own blood transferred
into your system and she did have an
infection of the blood (i.E hbv, hcv, or
hiv) it will still be very tough for you
to get it. You are more likely to get hbv
(hepatitis b) than hiv in a situation like
yours. Per amount of blood there are more
infected cells with an hbv infected person
than an hiv infected person. Unless she
was bleeding profusely and you contracted
it via a mucous membrane (eyes, nose) it
will be very difficult to contract the
disease. I am in nursing and if we get
pricked with a contaminated needle
considering hiv, it would be fairly tough
to contract. I would still keep
everything in mind and watch for any
signs/symptoms. Hbv will exude symptoms
such as fever, headache, muscle pains,
nausea, etc.
Hope this helped, best of luck!

You should keep disposable gloves in your
first aid kit. You can get them in the
cleaning section of stores.
You cannot get hiv or aids from saliva,
sweat, tears, urine, or feces. Therefor
you cannot get hiv or aids from hugging
(and coming into contact with sweat) or
kissing (contact w/saliva) I posted the
reason for saliva on your other thread.
Sweat, urine, and tears simply do not
carry the virus. You can get it through
blood, mucous membranes, semen, vaginal
fluids, and breast milk. Hope i've
helped!
