I have not had an episode of gout for over
a year now and have just recently had an
attack. I have had uric acid reading
done and the doctor has told me that it is
very high.
I have just started on a diet about three
weeks ago and I am wondering if that is
what is causing it. My diet consists of
a 3 egg omelette (only two yolks), cereal
with skim milk, fresh fruit and I also
take two glasses of protein a day, for
lunch I have a sandwich with beetroot,
ham, gherkins, eggs and tomato's. For
tea I have either chicken, beef or tuna
with pasta/rice/potatoe.
I train five days a week.
Is there something in this diet that is
causing this -too many eggs?, the
protein????
Please help

After a gout attack the urate (msu)
crystals are coated by certain proteins
and lie innocently in the joints, until
the coatings are shedded to expose the raw
crystals and trigger the attack. Some
known triggers are:
1) significant changes of the blood
uric acid levels including: initiation of
the uric acid lowering drugs (e.G.,
allopurinol, probenecid/benemid,
sulfinpyrazone,...), dieting, too much
alcoholic drinks, etc.
2) injury and fatigue in the gouty
joints.
3) low ph diet and drinks.
4) dihydration, feast, fast, and
exposure of the gouty joints to the
cold.
If you initiated uric acid lowering drug
therapy after the blood test, it must be
the most likely trigger. If you didn't,
then to be on a diet is the culprit. The
above 2) to 4) could also be the factors.
You can find more info about gout causes,
triggers, avoidance, treatment, and the
cure at http://www.Icuredmygout.Org .
Take care.

The ham and chicken is bad. Also, the
whey protein could be bad also but im not
sure. It depends if it had purines or
not. You need to look that up
