Very Confused And Scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted: 08-18-04 14:52pm
I am a 24 year old
female and I have been having some odd
symptoms going on in the last 6 months! I
have seen 4 doctors over this amount of
time who all have reassured me that I dont
have ms! Here is what has been going on!
In january of 2004 I noticed that
sometimes when I went to walk my right
foot would not pick up it would drag! I
thought this very odd and went to a doctor
who did a neuro exam on me and checked my
optic nerve! She said everything was
great and told me I had what is called a
'heavy foot syndrome! In may I strained
my neck at work and went to pt for over a
month! I was fine until july and I
noticed that my head sometimes jerks, it
doesnt hurt and I cant really feel it
before it happens it just started to jerk!
Also last week while I was typing a email
to a friend my left pinky and ring finger
tingled....All day long! I went to the er
and they did some x-rays on me ato see if
I possiblly had a slipped disk! The
x_rays came back perfect, but you could
see how swollen and innflammed my muscles
were! The doc put me on muscle relaxers
and nsaids. I asked him if he thought I
could possibly have ms, he said no that it
was very unlikely and he also said a lot
of times yo have to have a family history
of it! I have had no other symptoms no
visual problems no fatiguness but I have
noticed I have become very depressed and
anxious in the last couple of weeks!
So heres my questions.....
A) do you think I could possibly have
ms?
B)why is my head doing this weird jerking
thing?
C) do you think I could have a neuro
disease other than ms?
D) lastly, do you think this is related to
the sprain?
Thank you

I think you need to find another doctor as
a matter of urgency.
Firstly, you do not need to have a family
history of ms to get this disease,
although if you do have a close relative
with it you are considerably more likely
to get it -- but most people who get it,
don't have relatives with it, if you see
what I mean. It isn't a genetic disease,
although some people may be more
predisposed.
From what you are describe, the symptoms
you describe do suggest that further tests
might be in order, both to explore ms and
to rule out any other neurological
condition. If none of these doctors have
suggested an mri, have them explain to you
in detail why not.
If it is related to the strain in your
neck, and it is possible I think, then you
should be referred to a chiropractor asap.

Hey you need to just go to a neaurologist
(sorry if it's spelt wrong) and tell them
you insist on a mri. This will be the
only thing that will tell you that you
have ms. My husband of just a month was
diagnosed 4 yrs ago. And he is only 29.
We have been threw alot of tests and what
not, but he is on the right med. And
doing a light dose of chemo and he has
been fine for over a yr. So don't be
scared or confused just get into the
doctors and demand results.....Feel free
to email me anytime, maycoo41
