Hi, I am a 39 year old woman, and have
been basically a happy fun loving person
in my life. I have been depressed before
after a break up with a boyfriend, and
normal things like that. My concern is
that every once in a while, someone will
say something that I may not understand
even a harmless statement, and a few days
later I will start dwelling on it until it
controls my mind.. I ususally find a way
to snap out of it and I go on with my
regular routine and am happy, but im
wondering if I may have some sort of
chemical imbalance, because when the
thougth comes in my head,, its usually a
few words someone said,, I will play it
over in my head and I can't function like
I normally do because I keep thinking
about it... In the past few weeks its got
to the point were I am depressed, not
enjoying doing what I usually do,, and I
snap out of it from time to time but the
obsessive thought creeps in ,, its like a
mind game... I am living with a man,, I
moved to michigan from mass a year and a
half ago, and I dont want to ruin our
relationship because he doesn't understand
why I keep dwelling on stupid things, and
now im depressed. Does anyone have any
advice for me... Its like I won't let
myself be happy sometimes and on top of
all this, I quit my part time job that I
have been at for a year because the new
supervisor was a jerk, putting it
lightly.. I was happy there, and thats
only compounded the problem..

it sounds like you have a real problem
with ruminating over things and this is
caused by the thinking errors you are
making and probably unaware that you are
making because they often come from
automatic thoughts we have in our
subsconcious. Look into getting involved
in cbt. The tools taught in cbt, if
practised regularly, will teach you how to
think more objectively and learn to stop
ruminating and worrying so much. I
suffered for years before I learned how to
use the cbt tools. My favorite starter
book on cbt is "been there, done that? Do
this! By sam obitz and many universities
offer cbt programs for little or no charge
so you may want to call the ones in your
area. Good luck!

I have had a lot of luck with bach flower
remedies, they're a complementary therapy,
and they work by balancing emotional and
mental states. I personally am taking
them for pms mood symptoms. I've studied
them and am in the process of taking the
final level to be certified as a
practitioner, if you're interested there
are a couple that would be ideal in your
situation, to address the mental thoughts
going round and round and also the
depression.

i think this reply was to silverlou and
not me? In case it was to me you can get
the obitz book online and you may want to
call your local university as many have
cbt programs that are little or no
charge.
Good luck and I hope you find something
that works for you :d
