Q: Not Too Sure What's Going On

Last month, my period was late. Then when I finally got it, it wasn't a normal period since it was brown colored and not heavy at all. I took a hpt about 4 days after my late/missed period and it was negative. I waited about a week and took a 2nd test and it was also negative. I did initially have most symptoms of pregnancy, such as being tired, getting nausea often, frequent urination, and somewhat sore breasts. Most of those symtoms went away after 2 weeks. However, just the other day I discovered that i've put on 8 pounds in two weeks. That's very unlike me. My period is due again next week so I was just going to wait it out. However, the weight gain bothers me. Is that I sign of something else wrong? I'm 22 and doubt cancer is a possibility but maybe.

No period and a negative hpt can also mean a pregnancy with low hormone levels. You should contact your doctor for a blood test to be sure.

No Doc Appt Until I Have Insurance
I can't schedule a doctors appt until my insurance kicks in which is in about two weeks. So, I was just someone might have an idea if something else is wrong or if it really does sound like pregnancy.

It is highly unlikely that your pregnant. Many different things can affect the body ( weight gain, flow of period). Had you been pregnant it would of shown up on the hpt, especially after the second test. With the first one being so early, you may not of produced enough of the hcg hormone but by that second week you would of. Diet, exercise, lack of sleep, stress, etc can have a negative effect on your body causing weight gain and interrupted periods. You can definately go to the doctor to find out for sure. If you don't want to wait then you can go to a clinic like planned parenthood, where they go by a sliding scale basing the appointment fee on what your income is. If you don't have a lot of income they will give you the lowest possible fee amount and you don't need insurance. It isn't very expensive to get a blood test for pregnancy and would definately recommend it if you are that worried. Also you can talk with them about your worry of your body's changes and maybe they will have some more answers for you.
Hope this helped. Best of luck!

I think natalie's idea is right you should go into those facilities that they can help you take one and charge a low fee.

About the hpt I know that there are some people who take two or three and still come up negative it could be your low hormone level. But then again there could be other things that can affect your body....

The best thing is to see your doctor or get information where you can go into a facitily where they can help you out.

Sorry if I was no help. I tried.

I do intend on making a doc appt asap but it would probably be a waste of my time if I went to a clinic in the meantime. Thank you for the advice. My symptoms have been such a rollercoaster (fine one day, sick the next) that i'm just miserable so i've been searching for quick answers Rolling Eyes and of course, they are none. The missed period freaked me out because i'm as regular as they get when it comes to periods (almost to the hour). I know stress isn't the issue and neither is diet. I know the list of things that can affect cycles is very, very long but none of them seemed to fit my situation. Hence, I freaked Shocked

so, after much discussion with other boards and friends, I 've determined that it's either something female related (like a cyst) or a thyroid problem. I found out today that my insurance should start sept 1st, which is a relief and really not that long to wait. Before then, i'm due for my next period so that might rule out pregnancy before I get to make an appt.

Thanks for the advice though! It helps when you're not sure what your body is doing!

Like the other girls said if you are pregnant your hormones are pobably too low. Some people don't have high enough hormones until up to two weeks to two months after your period begins.
