No Appetite After Bypass Posted: 08-20-04 17:56pm
I had my bypass in 2003 - for the last 4-5
months now, I have had constant nausea,
and no appetite. I have been taking
compazine for the nausea, but even when
that settles my stomach, I still have
absolutely no desire for food. No
cravings, no wants. Sometimes I can go 2,
even 3 days without eating. I don't even
get hungry. My doctors cannot give me a
reason for this. I know it's unhealthy to
go without food, but if I force myself to
eat, it just makes me sick. I am not
losing any weight from not eating. Is
anyone else having this problem, or knows
why this is happening? Is there anything
that can be done about this? Any replies
or help is greatly appreciated, because I
don't know what else to do.

Have you spoke with a naturopathic herbal
dr? There is one that comes to the
ehealth forum I know for sure if you go to
the back pain forum here you could pm him,
his name is Dr. Venugopal(something like
that) he might be able to help you.
You are correct about eating, have you
tried ensure, at least that will give you
some nutrients and vitamins.
Has your Dr. Checked for scar tissue?
I do wish you the best!
Sincerely,
sandy

Sandy, thank you so much for your reply!
I'd never thought about the possiblilities
of scar tissue; i'd had so many adhesions
from my previous vbg that my surgery was
difficult, and I had some problems
afterward. That is something I will check
into with my gastroenterologist. I also
did not know about a naturopathic herbal
Dr.. How do I go about contacting one?
Should I get a referral from my regular
physician, or would they be listed in the
phone book?
This was my first post to the forum, so I
will try to figure out how to pm Dr.
Venugopal.. I can't tell you how grateful
I am to you for all this information! I
have been searching the web like mad to
find some information when I came upon the
website. I'm going to get some ensure
this week, and i'll keep you posted.
Thanks again for everything.. You're the
greatest!!! :d

Nausea in itself can cause lack of
appetite. Also after your surgery have
you got your liver function tests done?
If so what are the reports like.
If the liver function is in normal
parameters, ipecac 200c taken three times
a day for five days along with hydrastis
mother tincture, twenty drops in a cup of
water at bedtime for a fortnight would
help in restoring your appetite. All
these are homeopathic medicines only.
Dr.Venugopal gouri.
