Hayley's One Week Old Appt. Posted: 08-20-04 22:41pm
Hayley had her first ppt on the 17th and
the doc said she is great!!! The only
thing is her thyroid test on the pku
(newborn screening) came back low and they
needed me to take her to have her blood
drawn again to check it. The next day I
went and it was terrible I cried worse
than she did!!! I mean they tied a
flippin rubberband around her arm and used
the iv like needle to take her blood
filled up a big tube. I was so upset as
soon as the needle was out of her arm she
quit crying me on the other hand I did
not, lol. So I got the results on the
19th and they said she was fine that alot
of babies come back with that low test and
when double checked just fine. Doc stuck
her pinky in hayleys butt because she has
a hard time pooing and hayley cried and
screamed omg it is terrible what they go
through!! That day she had a bowl
movement though so yeah!!!
Today she has been so fussy. I have been
giving her mylicon drops (sp) and then
broke down and called the on call doc.
She said that babies at 2 weeks start to
learn ho to poo and fart and they grunt
moan and cry. I feel so sorry for hayley.
I have had her on my belly/on her belly
alot today to try and ease up the
discomfort. Doc told me to do a rectal
temp to help ease the pain and to help her
poo, but she has been asleep and I dont
wanna wake her up only to cause her more
pain when she is so peaceful right now.
She weighs 9lb and 11oz now. Eas great
and I am soooooo happy to have her!!!
Lots of love,
heather and hayley
Well, things seem a lil rough, but she's
ok and that is all that matters. I am so
glad you are enjoying motherhood! She's a
lil chunky butt too isn't she! I wanna
see more pics when possible!
Love,
chanda

Goodness! With pku, after 11 days, its
pretty much too late isn't it? Why did
they wait so long to retest?

I got out of the hosp the 16th and had her
doc appt the 17th that is when I got the
results to her test and she sent me to
this place on the 18th for the blood test.
She never said anything to me about it so
I did not know anything was wrong. Soon
as I found out I was on the ball though.
I guess everybody gets the pku test
results at their babies first doc appt.
Hayley weighs alot but believe it or not
she is tiny. I mean not chunky she is
extra long and that makes up for the
weight I believe. My aunt came over the
other day and she thought because she
weighed that much she would be big but she
seen her and would not hold her cause she
is so little. She keeps her long long
legs tucked up and her knees tucked to her
belly, lol.
Lots of love,
