Posted: 08-23-04 13:52pm

Hey girls,
im sposed to start my pill tomorrow... Its triphasil 28.. Ive never been on it before, I was always on marvelon... But my doctor prescribed it to me and told me I was sposed to start taking it after 3 weeks postpartum.. But im also breastfeeding. Is that okay?? Is it okay if im taking this pill while im breastfeeding? I heard ur not sposed to be on the pill when u breastfeed.. So im just making sure before I start it (god its been so long since ive been on the pill lol!) thanx!

I think you can breastfeed and take the pill, after I have the baby i'm getting an iud... The doc puts it in and you dont get pregnant for up to 5 years and if u decide to just have a baby you can take it out.

Hmmm im thinking of switching back to marvelon.. I looke dit up and it said I shouldnt take triphasil if nursing due to steriods gettin to the baby and it could lower my qauntity and quality of my milk... So im thinkin fo switchin.. Ill just wait until my 6 week appt and talk to my doctor... Thanx girls!

Shauna...The drug book I have says triphasil is contraindicated in lactation and to avoid use. You should call your doc and let him/her know you need something else! That was smart to look it up before you took it!

Haha erin you make me laugh with your searching, copying and pasting!

Ok...Desogen is what I know it as. Well not know, but what I can look it up under! You ever wonder why they cant just have one name? It would make things easier. Anyways...

Shauna - I have looked up all the hormonal contraceptives in this book and they all say avoid use during lactation. So maybe that is one of those things where the doctor knows best, and its really ok to take it anyways. It wouldnt hurt to ask him/her though....He would think you were a smart patient! Let me know what you find out...I'm curious.

Because people wouldn't stand in the medicine isle and wonder which is better? Tylenol or excedrin? They'd know that they can take a tylenol, an aspirin, and drink a coke and they'd have the same thing as excedrin! And the only companies that would make money would be tylenol, aleve, and advil!

Lol. You are funny erin! Advil is the only one that works for me. Tylenol does nothing, and since I don't touch caffeine, excedrin just makes me sick.
