Pregnancy While Taking Inactive Pills?
Posted: 08-24-04 13:15pm

Hey. I was wondering if my girl friend is at a higher risk of getting pregnant if we have sex when she is on the week of her inactive pills? This has been a concern for us lately. Thanks for your help,

If she is taking her "active" pills every day she is supposed to, at the same time, and isn't taking antibiotics or anything else that would interfere with the pill then you are about 99% protected against pregnancy, even during the 7 "inactive" pill days, that's how the pill works, 21 days on, 7 days off.

The risk of pregnancy is higher if the pills are taken at different times of the day, or if a day is missed or skipped, or if some antibiotics are taken at the same time.

Hope this helps
