6 years ago I ruptured my acl. As I did
not have health insurance I was placed on
a hosiptal waiting list & did not
receive my surgery until 3 years after
rupturing the ligament. In australia a
ruptured acl is considered elective
surgery.
Anyway in the 3 years I was walking with a
ruptured acl I developed a particular
style of walking in order to stop my knee
slipping out (which was quite painful).
I think what I must have done was hold all
the muscles in my damaged leg tightly, I
also started to walk favouring the other
(good) leg.
Anyway, it is now 3 years after my knee
reconstruction & I have not yet
returned to walking the way I did prior to
my knee injury. I still walk as though I
have a damaged knee even though it is fine
& there is no pain in it wahtsoever,
nor does it slip out of place. Its almost
like I have developed a new way of walking
& have to retrain myself to walk
properly again.
The hip on the damaged side has also
become very stiff but not too painful from
either too little or improper use over the
last 6 years & the muscles in my leg
seem very weak.
Has anyone else experienced anything
similiar?
I am currently seeing an osteopath to try
& sort this out as nothing has helped
at all.
Up until my knne injury (at age 35) I was
very active playing football,
soocer..Doing martial arts etc.
One other thing I did have hip dysplasia
as a child, but after spending 9 months in
a cast was told everything was ok. I have
never experienced even the slightest pain
with hip prior to my knee injury, even
with all the sport I played, also never
had any injuries to any part of my body
prior to my knee injury.
Is it possible that this hip stiffness is
due to my hip dysplasia as a child?
I'd appreciate any help
thanks
