Ot: What Size Is This?
Posted: 08-25-04 19:12pm

Hi girls,
i know this is off topic, but I thought u may be able to answer it! Here in australia i'm a size 10.. I'm 5 foot 4 and 51kg.. I've roughly converted that to 112 pounds (??) .. So approximately what dress size would someone be if they're 112 pounds?

It's odd that similar countries like aust and the us still have these big differences! It's like how u call bread rolls biscuits and we call cookies biscuits.. That's just funny Smile

and what is ranch dressing? Is it like mayo?
Haha.. Thanks to anyone who answers my batty post Wink

Well before I got pregnant I was 5'2" and 115, and I could occasionally fit into a 3, but mostly a 5. It really depends on the maker. I can wear a 1 in gap, but not even a 3 in some other brands.

Well, it really depends on your shape, and the particular clothing line. When I was 110 I was no were near a 3 or a 5. But that is b/c I carry most of my weight in my hips. To get a close to accurate us dress size, you'd really have to take your measuments. So first it really depends on the person. And then it depends on the clothing line b/c if I get a pair of pants from gap, most of the time they will fit my hips and waist, and if I go to old navy and get a pair of pants that are similar, they would most likely fit my hips, but they would be way too big for my waist. So it all depends.

Thanks girls,
i was just asking for interest's sake.. Cos when I hear someone say "i'm a 6" I have no idea what size they mean.. Cos a 6 here is pretty much unheard of!

Hi kia,
sounds about the same as here! Size 8s are usually models.. And 12 to 16 is about average.

Ranch dressing has some mayo in it and sour cream, and garlic and other spices. Yuummm!! Its kind of tart, and very flavorful.

Cherie(mumof2)... Nope we don't have chillies.. I dont know if they have them in brisbane either. I'm several hrs west of brissie so we don't have anything real special out here!
I've never had ranch dressing.. Not really something u see on supermarket shelves here!
Jordan -.. Here when u talk about a human u usually aren't discussing cigarettes! (hint: a guy)
hmm.. Trying to think what else is different.
We don't have cable for anything.. Tv, net, whatever. Some of the capital cities have it in some areas but for the rest of us we have regular tv or for those who can afford it, satellites for tv. Dialup is very common because broadband isnt available in a lot of places still and it's still expensive and has restrictive download limits. I finally got broadband a week ago and it's not great.
Aussies tend to have a lack of unity, community spirit, national pride.. All except our sportsmen who are worshipped like gods (ugh). The average aussie only knows half our anthem.. We're a country of 'i dont give a stuff' Laughing
apart from dress sizes, shoe sizes are also different from those in the us and uk. I have aussie shoes in size 8, uk ones in a 5 (love my dr marten's Wink best thing to come out of the uk.. Those and the techno guys 'underworld'!) and once had swedish ones in a 38!
We call college university... And not everyone goes to uni when they finish school. Some go to tafe (it's like a tech college) or get jobs, apprenticeships or traineeships. We get into uni based upon marks in grade 11 and 12, not on having to write essays or get letters of recommendation or anything. The government pays for us to go to uni, so it costs us nothing in the short term.. Then if u get a full time job earning over a certain amount, u have to start paying your uni fees back from each paycheck. I was at uni for 3 yrs and my debt is $12,000 but because I only earned over the threshold for 4 mths, I only paid back $600 of the debt.. And now I dont work (my husband works full time to support us) I dont have to pay it back.
We don't have bosco.. Not that i've seen.. It might be in some supermarkets tho. We have oreos tho.. But they're really expensive.. We also have a horrible old oreo ad on tv with a kid and a dog and a glass of milk Confused
We get tv shows aaages after you guys, movies also. Any form of acting or musical talent tends to leave aust and move to the us or uk in order to get anywhere. Nicole kidman is a prime example.
We don't have wic or programs like that that u guys discuss. We do have family payments tho from the govt. Here we have a public health system so that u can get medical treatment without having private health insurance. If u do get health insurance, it has waiting periods before u can use it. For example, the insurance that covers pregnancy related stuff has a 12 mth waiting period so u have to take it out many months before u even get pregnant! All the insurers are different, but that sort of thing seems to be the norm.
I have never once met someone named jayden, jaydyn, jaiden, etc! Seems to be a common name amongst the americans on this forum but I havent yet come across it here irl!!!

hey don't worry about that, neither have i, and I live in the .U.S! Jayden seems to be a trendy name that just got going, so I probably won't meet one for another 5-10 years! Laughing
