My husband has been sober for 1 year now. He went to aa meetings for the first 2 months. He is having some serious mood swings. He will not go to the aa meetings anymore. Why? Unknown. I love my husband with all my heart. Help me, I am going crazy.

Yes, My Husband Is Depressed

He is on medicine called wellbutrin and prozac to help him with depression . What I do not get is why he is not going to the aa meeting anymore to help him get through life. In my heart I know that he wants to drink again but, he is fighting it.

Just A Theory...

Maybe it could be the Prozac... I know prozac can often be strong enough to take away depression for long periods of time. Meaning it could be strong enough to make him not realize any lash outs or mood swings. I've had plenty of friends who started taking medicine and were effected the same way.

My guess is your husband stopped drinking, felt withdrawel and depression, so he felt he needed medicine and if he stops taking the medicine that will also cause withdrawel and possibly start up the drinking again (it's a complicated situation).

Now, i'm not a doctor, but honestly, i'd maybe concider telling him to take smaller portions of the prozac every day until finally he can deal without it.
it's alot more gradual and his mind can react to it much better.

to be honest with you I'm an 18 year old kid. so i could understand you thinking my help is useless. but i only suggest this based off personal experiences. I hope it was helpful. Oh and i have friends in indiana =) it's a nice state

Obviously, the meds are not working, he should change or maybe increase the dosage. Maybe a medication such as effexor or lexapro which help with depression AND anxiety would be better. How long has he been on the medication? I hope the situation gets better, try and talk to him about seeing the doctor for medication changes.
