it always happens and I feel nervous and queezy for the entire trip-afraid
-- to eat anything till I get home/ my husband thinks its all in my
mind but now I am afraid to eat out. Also bloating etc. My Dr. Says i
may have ibs. Ihave been taking papay enzyme tablets every day to
help with my digestion. Any help please.

Ihad hida sacn which showed my gall bladder does not empty properly but specialist sees no reason to take it out as it would not make any difference.I have now also been diagnosed with ibs and have lost alot of weight. Should I get another opinion as I feel so ill with intestinal gas and nausea. Iwould have thought if it is not empting properly he would have removed it.

Gallbladder
Posted: 10-01-05 10:20am

My 16 year old daughter is currently in hospital with severe back pains. They though it was gallbladder problems. Have recently had stomach and pelvic utltrasounds but everything came back normal. Her pain has been off and on for about 1 1/2 years now. She had her appendix removed 4 weeks ago because she had terrible pains on right side. Have since then found out her appendix was normal!! Since she had her appendix out her pain has been uncontrollable. Not sure if all this pain is related. Her pain is in the middle of her shoulders and sometimes moves from her right to left shoulder blades. She is on strong pain killers. Dr. Not sure whats going on with her. Has anyone out there had these systems??

Gall Bladder Pain
Posted: 11-11-05 08:03am

I have a suggestion for anyone suffering from pain in the gall bladder region everytime something is eaten:

i am currently taking milk twisle to releive the pain that is caused when food is taken.

This capsules can be found in natural food stores. Please read about it first though; since it might have counter effects with some other drugs and might complicate other health issues.

If this can help people currently suffering this pain I am glad I can help.

This is a temporary solution to my recurrent pain. Waiting to be diagnosed for the cause of this problem can be extrenous in itself.

Cheers and hang on in there!

This May Help If You Have Diarrhea Attacks After Having Gb R
Posted: 12-17-05 20:47pm

Here is the calcium information. I know it is a lot to take in but it may be will worth it to see if this simple solution can offer you the relief it has me and many others. You need to follow it as close as you can to get the best results. I know it sound too simple to work but it really does help a lot.

This is what has helped me for more than 7 years with almost daily attacks of urgent diarrhea after having my gall bladder removed. Calcium is known to be constipating so if you are that ibs type do not take it. All calcium is not the same. Here is the what and how to take the calcium information if you suffer from diarrhea.

Calcium is an otc supplement we all do not usually get enough of. No rx is needed to purchase this.

When you take calcium about 40% of the dose gets to the bones the rest is eliminated in our waste. The calcium goes to the intestines and soaks up excess fluids and binds them together and they are gotten rid of in our waste.

This is a process that can be continued by taking the calcium carbonate on a daily basis thus giving a more formed bm.

There is calcium carbonate which helps us with diarrhea and there is calcium citrate which is more easily absorbed by the body and gets to the bones but is not as helpful in controlling diarrhea.

A lot of the calcium supplements contain a 2 to 1 ratio of calcium to magnesium. Magnesium is not helpful for us with diarrhea only causing more in most cases. So, do not purchase this combination. It will only make things worse. Also if you are taking a multi vitamin with magnesium this may be a source of some of the problem if you are having diarrhea. Also for me vitamin a, c, and e seemed to cause me stomach upset. If you check this out your will see they too can cause diarrhea. It is better not to take a multi vitamin while trying to get the calcium to help.

The dose to take is different for everyone. I must take 3 a day one at each meal and it does not make a difference if I take it before during or after just take it regularly. Taking them at least 4 or 5 hours apart is also necessary so the calcium has time to go through the system and soak up excess bile and water. Sometimes, because of the long number of hours between dinner and breakfast it may be necessary to adjust your timing to taking one at bedtime with a small snack to get better results if you are a person who usually suffers from diarrhea in the mornings. I think the way it works is the dose you take prior helps with the current meal and the distress it may cause.

The most success has come from using any formula of calcium supplement that is like caltrate 600 plus with vitamin d and minerals in the purple and white box. This information is from the many users that have sent me emails and of the posters on the web sites I have dealt with. I hope this will help anyone wishing to try it and I am always here to answer any questions for you. I have a lot of feed back form many users.

You must also have some testing done to be sure you are not dealing with anything more serious. This is most important.

There are other things to consider. If you take any other meds check the side effects and also check with the doctor or pharmacist to see if taking calcium will interfere with your other medications and how you might take them. I know if you take thyroid meds it is important not to take the calcium at the same time but you can take the thyroid meds one hour before you take calcium or 4 hours after taking the calcium. The calcium will soak up the thyroid medication and you will not be getting the benefit from it. You should also look at the side effects of any other meds you may be on this can contribute to the success or failure of using calcium to help to control your diarrhea. You may also consider if you are constipated and taking calcium this may be the reason for your constipation. You can most likely switch to another form of calcium to relieve this also.

The only side effect is at the beginning of taking the calcium, you may have some gas or indigestion but this usually goes away soon after taking a regular dose for a few days as your body adjusts to the added calcium. For most it is about 3 days and it is important to start with the lower dose so you don't have the added distress and think the calcium is not helping but making you worse.

Starting with 1/2 tablet doses with each meal will lessen this problem and it may be enough to control the diarrhea attacks without making you constipated.

Constipation can be a problem so be careful not to take too much. It is safe for most of us to take 1800 mg a day as long as your body processes calcium correctly and you do not have some underlying problem. Check with your doctor.

I had my gall bladder removed in 1976 and from that time on I had suffered urgent attacks of diarrhea. It is now known to me that is called bile salts diarrhea. This happens to a good percent of people who have had their gall bladder removed. I went through a lot of test but nothing else could be found. I took many of the meds for bowel spasms and cramps over the years but nothing ever seemed to help. I started to take a calcium supplement to help prevent bone loss in later years and from the first day I felt relief. I was pretty much a prisoner to the bathroom or had to go without eating to be able to leave the house.

I must take 1 tablet with each meal and the diarrhea does not come back if I miss taking it I get diarrhea. It is a trial and error situation to find the right amount that may help you.

The way it works is the calcium carbonate it a binder and when you take it only about 40% of the calcium gets to the bones and the rest is gotten rid of in our waste. During that process it gets to the intestines and soaks up excess bile and water and helps give a more solid bm. Now that you have no gall bladder the bile fluid goes directly into the intestines and causes irritation and diarrhea. That burning yellowish color that you may see is the bile. The calcium carbonate soaks this up and no more diarrhea. It works great for a lot of us and you just have to take the calcium regularly and do not miss.

I started with caltrate 600 plus with vitamin d and minerals and it does seem to make a difference in the ingredients of calcium... This one seems to do the best job for most. You can buy other store brands of calcium with the same ingredients that work just as well but they need to have the same ingredients. I get member's mark brand from sam's club you get 300 tablets for 8.99. I know walgreens has their brand with the same ingredients and if you live in the uk boots has been reported to have something similar. Let me know if you need more help. You won't be sorry if you try it.

I suggest starting with 1/2 tablet with each meal at first this may be enough to control the diarrhea if not in a few days up the dose to 1 tablet with each meal or any combination there of. The side effect is constipation so if you feel it coming on just stop taking it until you have a bm then start back on a lower dose. It is important to use a calcium that is as much alike as the caltrate brand from the feedback I have gotten.

Let me list the ingredients:

vitamin d 200 iu (the sunshine vitamin needed to help the body absorb calcium)

calcium 500 or 600 mg (this should be calcium carbonate form) (calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. It is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Calcium is vital to muscle and nerve function, blood clotting and metabolism.)

magnesium 40 mg (no more than this amount because magnesium will cause you to have diarrhea but because calcium is constipating the magnesium helps to counter act that effect) (magnesium is essential to build bones and is needed for muscle function, energy metabolism, trans-mission of nerve impulses and to make genetic material and protein.)

zinc 7.5 mg (zinc is necessary for some metabolic processes, normal growth and sexual development, and proper immune system functions.)

copper 1 mg (copper promotes iron absorption and is essential to red blood cells, connective tissue, fibers and skin pigmentation.)

manganese 1.8 mg (maganese plays an important role in metabolism and is also needed to build bones and tendons.)

boron 250 mcg. (improves calcium and magnesium retention. Similar improvements can also be seen in vitamin d deficient post menopausal females.)

there are other brands with the same ingredients so get something as close as you can. Then start with 1/2 tablet with each meal and in a few days if this is not enough to control your diarrhea then up the dose to 1 tablet with each meal. If you feel you are becoming constipated then cut back on the dose. You may have to stop the calcium completely then start back after you have a bm at a lower dose.

It has been working since the first day I started taking it july 1998 and as long as I take 3 a day (this is the amount I must take it may be different for you) I remain diarrhea free. No cramps, bloating or diarrhea. No stomach noises, gas or pain. If I should happen to have a case of diarrhea for who knows what reason it is very short lived and not the pain involved like before and this I am sure happens to even normal people. It is usually a one shot deal and it is over.

The dose you take with each meal is not the dose that is helping you at that meal it is the prior ones that have time to works their way through you system to soak up excess bile and water in the intestines.

It also works for those of you who still have the gall bladder.

Take care,

linda

I have taken some perscriptions from different dos but nothing seems to want to work.Just lately the pain has started after lunch and has lasted for along time. I am not sure what to do and was wondering what to do? also it feels like there is something in my throat and I can taste almost like heartburn. Please help! Thanx

Hida Results
Posted: 12-21-05 14:08pm

I've been having quite a classic case of galbladder symptoms but have a clear (stone-free) ultrasound, so my doctor sent me for a hida scan to rule out biliary dyskinesia. The results came back with an ejection fraction of 23.8%. I know that this is abnormal, but the doctor says it's only mildly so and she's not sure what the surgeon will want to do. In the meantime, i'm battling rather unpredictable pain, nausea, and occasional belching problems. Can anyone offer some experience as to whether or not the surgeon will operate?

Also, is it possible to have gallbladder attacks from not eating?

Any advice is definitely appreciated!

Hopefully you guys can help me. This is my story, it now seems like all of the gall bladder symptoms everyone describes. Tests still coming back mostly normal. Does this sound similar to you?....Last july I thought I had the flu, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain that was so constant without relief it was making me moan outloud. Then things got so severe I decided I couldn't take it anymore (reminded me of labor). It was after my doctors office hours so I went to the er. They did a catscan, ultrasound and blood and urine tests. The catscan showed my appendix was slightly swollen and a ovarian cyst that I wasn't aware of. Everything else normal. They decided to keep me overnight to see if my white blood count went up. It never did. So, they figured I just had a cyst that burst. Very painful but harmless. Afterwards I still felt very nausius, no appetite, tender in the abdomin - mostly in the top middle but it seemed like a little bit everywhere. I was told that if a cyst did burst the estrogyn that was emitted would cause those symptoms. 2 weeks had passed, still the same. Then I again had the same problem again but the severe pain seemed worse like being stabbed with glass. Went to er again, all tests came back normal. For almost a month afterwards, I just didn't feel right. In addition to the above, I also had a dull ache in my right side going from the front to my back. My father had died in august and I had other stress in my life at the time. I wasn't positive if it was illness or the situation. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. 2nd week of january. I started to feel like I was getting sick. I hardly had an appetite, nausesu. Again the heartburning feeling. Chest congestion that felt like I couldn't breath (not sure if related) and it hurt if I took a deep breath. My daughter had bronchitis so doctor gave me an antibiotic even tho my lungs were clear. 2 days later I felt much worse again flu-like. Late that night I had the extreme stabbing stomach pains again. It was so bad that I almost fainted and then broke out in a cold sweat...I was literally dripping from head to toe. I didn't vomit this time but had diarrihia. Since then I realized that something was really wrong with me. Still the same achy feeling, no energy, no appetite, a full or nausues feeling constantly. Burning pains on and off. I also had a few migraines and pain in my upper right back. My right lower ribs seem very tender to the touch, almost bruised. I went to a gi doctor and he did a scope. He said he saw inflamation and a small nodule. He doesn't think it is anything significant but took a biopsy and we are waiting for the results. Also he had me give a stool sample and I had a sonogram. They didnt' see anything abnormal. I was so depressed when I heard that. I ended up calling my ob-gyn because originally they thought it was a ovarian cyst. She didn't think it was a gyno problem after examining me she wants me to have another ultrasound for lower abdominals monday, just to be sure. At this point I don't know what to do. It's difficult to pick up or run after my 20 month old and sit thru a day at work. Based on everything I read it sounds like a gall bladder issue to me. What to you guys think? I also read about an alternative to surgery regimin that involves swallowing olive oil and epson salt on the net. I figured it couldn't hurt even if it doesn't work. I'm hesitant to do anything until I can figure out exacty what's wrong. This way I know I can document an improvement so I have a better change of it not returning. Sorry for the long story and spelling errors. My family is starting to think this is all in my head and I know that something is wrong with me!

Gallbladder Problems
Posted: 03-30-06 00:26am

Hello. I'm 24 and have been experiencing stomach and intestinal problems for the past 3 or so years. I'm 5' 10" and about 160 lbs and athletic. I've been to my Dr. Numerous times complaining of nausea after eating, constipation, bloating, and a general feeling of being sick. He just said I have ibs and sent me home saying it was basically all in my head. In the last four months things have gotten worse and I hardly eat, everytime I do I feel awful and occasionally throw up. So, i'm going to a gi in a couple days to find out if it is indeed my gallbladder. I guess my question is if its possible to have gallbladder problems for years and not just acute onset? Also, if anyone experienced constipation with their problems, and did removal of the gallbladder help with that at all? I eat tons of fiber, have taken meds for ibs, and been tested for food allergies (negative) and nothing seems to make a difference. I'm just tired of feeling sick all the time. Thanks for the help!

Hernia And Gallbladder Problems!
Posted: 04-02-06 12:51pm

I was diagnosed with a hiatial hernia about six years ago, that I have been able to manage by avoiding fibrous foods such as lettuce, and not lying down after eating a large meal.

The attacks are characterized by severe pain in the upper abdomen. I induce vomiting to get rid of the food that is causing the problem, but there is very little actual nausea.

But this week I had an attact that does not fit the hernia attack profile. It started with abdominal gurgling, and progressed to chills, nausea, gas beginning at the rib cage and traveling down, vomiting, and diarria, but there was no pain. At first I thought this was the flu, but I am thinking it might be a gallbladder problem. My late mom had gallbladder trouble.

Is it likely that I have hernia and gallbladder problems, or was this a mild hernia attack? The hernia attacks do not involve gas or diarria, but the gurgling is sometimes present.

I also had surgery for diverticulitus about 15 years ago (that also runs in the family), and have had no further problems with that.

The majority of the time I am perfectly healthy. I am 5'3 and weigh 198 pounds, but I do advanced step aerobics several times a week, and am starting to supplement it with the treadmill.

The question is, are my current symptoms due to the hernia, gallbladder, or both? Are the two in any way related?

I realize I will have to go to the doctor about this, because I do not want to continue to miss from work (i am hourly and do not get any sick leave, so it cuts into my vacation time and looks bad).

Thank goodness I found this forum! I have been having the symptoms mentioned throughout this thread for the past 3 weeks now. I've been to the er where they diagnosed me with a possible seperated rib, lower back problems or a severe stomach ache! Even at the time it sounded like bs to my ears. Why can't professionals just say "i don't know"? Anyway, I wrote down all the names of the tests and will be seeing a specialist this week. I've been living on codine pills but am so tired of the way they make me feel. Wish me luck and thank you everybody!

Gallbladder/appendix Removed August 10, 2007
Posted: 08-23-07 15:36pm

I just recently had both removed and I am starting to feel like myself. Today is the best day yet. I went back to my doctor and informed him I still having trouble keep food in my body one way or the other.. He answerd by saying it has nothing to do what I have done to you. I am getting a little scared because I really can't go out, if I don't have any food in my system I can. I have lost about 10 lbs and I am wondering if this is normal.
