torn muscle and fractured T7,T8
Posted: 07-22-03 10:23am

It will be 5 yrs in Sept. that I was in a car accident. I fractured my T7 & T8 vert. and tore 6 to 8 inches of muscle from my spine. I went through physical therapy and also remained using a tens-unit, then started pain injections. All of these methods helped for limited time. I do not like to take presribed pain meds. Going through physical therapy they explained the the middle of the back was the hardest to exercise. I have discomfort everyday, bearable yet is always there. It gets worse on days, depending on my activities. I am still, 5 yrs later, limited in activities and also unable to continue hobbies (water skiing, gymnastics) that I did before. Riding in a bouncy boat is bad enough. I have heard that when the muscles repair themselves, they leave scar tissue. Can this tissue cause pain to remain? I had a bone scan done and it shows my vert. have calcumized, yet I am concerned about them causing problems and also concerned about how easily they are to fracture again with them being injured before. Do you have any suggestions on pain therapy, a fix, and should I still be having this pain ? I'm 27 yrs. old and am worried It could just get worse as I get older. Is there any kind of test, x-ray, that could confirm scar tissue ? I have given up on doctor visits, they say there is nothing they can do for me. Thank you

Back Pain

i have had more or less the same problem for about 5 years.. i suggest going to a doctor actually, but mine after the first couple of weeks did not warrant going since the pain was far far less intense.. anyway.. my pain although a pest is mainly in the extreme to mid lower back.. sitting in the same position, standing, lifting would set it off.. my accident was related to lifting way to much weight from the ground wrong.. anyway recently i bought a piece of exercise equipment and formed a routine and it had lower back exercises.. after only a week or two i noticed something very interesting.. when i slept my back did not hurt.. i did more days on my routing and less and less pain... so i think with muscles if you work them out with small weights or hanging off the end of bed w/ someone holding feet face down while bending up and down with back has really helped..

in short to handle just the muscles (since i know nothing about the bones and joints) i would suggest a long weight like maybe a few months at least on the back.. then very simple back stretches.. then a little more and so on.. after 5 years of very intense back pain at first to every now and then .. wow i may be finally free of all my back pain and back to where i was .. oh man i am happy once more....thanks

i am 29 and i am sure i had scar tissue.. my muscles tore from one side to the other and literally dropped me to the floor and i had to be carried out...

since i have done my study on bodybuilding i have found out that muscles when worked will break and tore in tiny places which in turn fix themselves so i guess a little work at a time will eventually replace all the tissue that was tore... man im free

btw also as i learned with body building .. you have to streatch out the muscles first before any activity.. i would suggest a daily morning stretch.. find something with a small amount of resistance to pull against..

sure if a doctor was to fix you up then he looses revenue because you will be fixed and would not come back in for more treatments...
