Hi everyone, I have a question. I think
lady brannon and I discused this once
before,but i'm not sure.
Every time I go in sams or any store with
a lot of floresant lighting, I feel
sick!!!!! Sams is the worst for me.
We go once a month, but yesterday it
was bad!!!!!
I thought I was going to pass out! I
forgot to where my hat. I had to sit down
on the cart because I was shaking so
bad.
I was dizzy and felt sick at my stomach.
My husband was in another part of the
store and I had to just sit there and pray
I didn't pass out. Only one person came
down that lane and just kept on going.
The way she looked at me I believe she
would n't even have stopped even if I was
sprawled on the floor!
I don't know how long I sat there before
my husband found me. I wasn't near done
and wanted to finish.I found a vender who
was handing out tomato soup and crackers.
That helped a little with my stomach. I
finally got all we needed and got out of
there!
Once I was in my van and had the air on
full blast I started feeling a little
better.
I'll never go there again without my hat
and sun glasses on!!
People may stare but I don't care!
My husband is disabled also, and I have
to do most of our once a month shopping.
He does the short trip durring the month.
We live a ways from sams, and it cost less
for us to shop there for a lot of our
needs.
Any feed back will help,
thanks....Sharon

Lights Posted: 10-02-03 08:58am
Hi sharon,
i have the same problem with flouresent
lighting. I got so bad that they had to
change the light bulbs in my classroom at
school. You can get low uv lights.
Some of the light bulbs contain just as
many uv's as the suns rays. I can't go
into a store with flouresent lighting
without sunblock because I will break out
in a rash. Going to walmart gives me a
bad stomach.
i think protecting my eyes with sunglasses
helps with my symptoms. I used to wear
tank tops to work but my shoulders kept
breaking out. I know of some companies
that provide uv proof clothing that looks
nice and is comfortable. For your
symptoms you should definately wear sun
glasses, and forget about anybody looking
at you. Think how much they would thank
you if they knew it kept you from throwing
up on there feet :d .
I hope this helps,
keep smiling,
jenn

Sun Block Posted: 10-02-03 09:09am
Thanks jenn, i'll try to remember the
sunblock also. It's kinda funny, we have
to "gear up" just to go shopping. Other
women put on makeup and we put on
sunblock!
I told a friend the other day that I
think i'll start wearing a cover up like
the ones do that can't show their faces in
public and wear long sheet like garments
when they go out.
I'm in no way making fun of them. I
think they have the right idea! ...Sharon

Amen. Yes, I hate going into stores with
fluorescent lights. People always look at
me so oddly, I turn red (skin rashes), I
sweat like a pig and then I start to feel
nauseaous and faint.
As for sam's...I don't shop there, but I
can tell you the two worse places where I
live are wal-mart (affiliated with sams)
and barnes and noble.
Jenn is correct; sunblock is a good way to
help fend off the results for a while.
These days you can even get make-up with
sunscreen in it.
You may also want to remember to wear long
pants and long sleeve shirts in these
stores.. A hat may be in order too!
hugs everyone!

Long Sleeves!! Posted: 10-02-03 13:53pm
Hi ladies, I live on the fl.-ga. State
line . It's hot!!! Here. I can't wear
long sleeves yet, i'd pass out for sure.
I went to do my blood work today. Then I
went to wal-mart. I needed sun-block and
new sun glasses. I wore my hat in and
payed for my glasses first and put them on
before I did any more shopping. I needed
a wheel chair but they were all out.
Next to sams I hate wal-mart . I try to
get in and out as fast as I can. Getting
in line at wal-mart is like bumper to
bumper traffic! I'm still feeling sick
and a little shaky from yesterday. I
think i'll try to take a nap.....Sharon

Long Sleeves! Posted: 10-02-03 14:10pm
I live in nc...It is hot and humid here
too!
Try to find some very thin, cotton long
sleeve shirts. Most stores are air
conditioned, thus, not as bad as one would
think! Seriously...I have to do it all
the time.
Trust me when I say that I did not want to
do it either, but now I am glad I do...I
can stand to be in the store for a bit
longer.
I understand if you don't want to, but it
can help!
Hi all...There is a product out called
sunguard that you add to your laundry and
it gives your clothes a higher spf than
what it would be normally...A typical
white buttondown dress shirt has an spf of
5, with the sunguard it is 30.
Don't let the long sleeves and long pants
drag you down -- it can be quite hot, yes.
I live in nc too (hi ladybrannon) but
tell you what, I would rather be a little
hot walking from the car to the store than
laid up in bed the next day with a fever
of 104. I don't get rashes, I get really
really high fevers that take forever to
break.
Small sacrifice for my sanity, but it's
worth it.

Hello Posted: 10-02-03 22:10pm
Hello ladies, very good advice I know. I
used to be very cold natured........Until
I had my hystorectamy (miss-spelled, but
you know what I mean.) anyway, i've tried
to wear long sleeves even in the winter
when it is cold, but I can't stand it for
some reason. I melt!! I only where a
jacket to and from the car. I take it off
as soon as the heat gets turned on. I can
only handle the heat on my feet and legs.
Now if I say i'm cold, my husband knows
i'm sick!
I've thought about useing an umbrella,
i'd really get some funny looks then.
....Sharon
Get a parasol instead of an umbrella.
You can find pretty ones in asian markets
if you have one near you.

Hi sharon,
the only time I use an umbrella is on
sunny days. I get a few strange looks but
I don't care. I helps me feel better.
Cheers,

Thanks All Posted: 10-03-03 11:05am
Hi ladies, thanks for all the sugestions.
I feel as if all
i've been doing lately is whining!! i'm not usually
like this!
I am having a hard time pulling myself
out of this. I need to clean my house and
I don't seem to be making any headway. I
wear out so...Quickly! i've always kept
my house clean. Now reasonably clean is
the best I can do. This week that is even
not happening! I'm starting to snap at my
husband and he doesn't deserve that!
Somebody snap me out of
this,please......Sharon

Hi sharon,
believe me, I know where you are coming
from. This might sound bad but I didn't
have the energy to get in the bath last
night. My husband, god love his heart,
took me to bed at 9:30 and stayed with me
all night.
You haven't been whining a lot. You give
good advice to a lot of people here. You
will snap out of this just give it some
time. As for cleaning, if you are not
choking on dust, don't worry about it for
a while. I'm sure your husband
understands too.
Keep smiling,

Hi jenn, thankyou for the boost. I needed
that. As for as the dust goes, I was
choking on it! I'm alergic to dust and I
think it was getting to me. Since that
post , I did manage to do some cleaning,
not all but it's better.
my husband went to run some errans and I
was able to pull my self together.
I quilt alot and I realized I had been
useing a floresant light in my lamp.
Duh...... He bought me a different bulb
,so now maybe I can return to normal
again. ...........Sharon

Hi sharon,
it's good hear that your feeling better.
I'm allergic to almost everything so I
know how that is.
I had a lamp that had a flouresent bulb in
it for the longest time. It was my
husband who pointed it out and we got a
new lamp.
I hope you have a good night. I don't
know what time it is in texas, it's 6:13pm
here.
