Help...husband Is Killing Himself!!! Posted: 09-08-04 00:33am
hello... From a newbie who doesn't know
where to start!!!
Hopefully I will get some answers here and
can find my way back.
Let me see if I can "nutshell" my delema.
Husband is an active alcoholic. Very
drunk daily. Drives about 7 miles every
nite, this terrifies me!!!. Obese, about
330#/6ft4". 52 years old. Symptoms are,
very red swollen calves, ankles and feet.
Bottom lip becoming puffy and purplish.
Bowel problems that were never present
before (messy shorts, towels, sheets).
Irregular breathing and snorting when he
is passed out in his chair. Drinks about
6 to 8 drinks (whisky) and beer daily.
There is so much more. The only time I
can have a normal conversation with him is
in the morning and on the phone during the
day. He truly is a good man with a great
heart and would give you the shirt off his
back.
3 days ago he snuck a bottle of whisky in
the house (he does not drink at home) and
proceeded to drink the whole thing! I
don't want to watch him kill himself and
honestly don't know what to do. I need
some medical answers. I am worried that
there could be more going on then just the
alcohol, diabetes? Liver failure? Edema?
Can anyone enlighten me so I have some
info? Also, I am desparate for
someone/anyone who I can share with.
This is such a lonely addiction and I feel
helpless and useless. How can you change
someone who "thinks" he doesn't need help?
Do I just watch him die? Thehousemouse

My husband is killing himself also - not
drinking daily, but his pattern of use is
becoming more problemmed - he is lying
about his drinking - he appears to truly
believe I don't have a clue when he is
drinking. I can tell by his tone of
voice at present, whether/not he's been
drinking. He even looked me in the eye
over the weekend, and became angry when I
indicated he had been drinking, insisting
he had not. It was evident. He is
attempting to hide his use, and I believe
may be drinking vodka "straight" at this
point, without even mixing it. He is
attempting to hide bottles, and is lying,
and I just can't manage it. It effects
him relating to me and to our son. I can
relate to your feelings. My husband is
also having osme physical symtpoms, which
I think may be an ulcer. The doctor told
him no caffeine or alcohol, but I do not
think that advice appeared to make a dent.
I am so frustrated, and not knowing what
to do. I stress out every time we are
going into a social situation. He wants
to drink before, and during. I don't
understand how he can believe no one
knows! It is so evident.

Help My Husband Is Killing Himself!! Posted: 10-03-04 00:07am
How long has ur husband been a drinker?
Heavy or not? If your husband has been a
drinker for some years his health problems
could definately be an effect of alcohol.
I am not a medical professional but do
have some ex... If he has not been a
drinker for some years he may still have
some health prob. Actually it sounds
like he does: the symptons you are
describing are actually very threatning!!
Whether or not it is an alcoholic he
needs to see a good physician!!!!
Hope I helped

Ladies,
i am a recovering male alcoholic. From
what you have told us, both your husbands
need to go to a rehab and will most likley
need to detox. They have all the symtoms.
I did the same things.
