Q: I Have a Question..

I very recently found out that I am pregnant, I am in my 11th week, my question is I have been violently ill the last 2 weeks or so, I cannot hold anything down, including water, I was hospitalized for dehydration for a week and kept on iv. They have given me lots of suggestions as to what to do but none of them seem to work. I was curious if anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it? Also is this harmful to my baby? Thanks

Check with your Dr. About trying some ensure.
Their should be something the Dr. Can give you! Check with the pharmacist too, their might be something over the counter you can use, some type of anti-nausea while being pregnant. Can you drink gatorade?
What about pedialite, check with your Dr. Or pharmacist.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I do hope you feel better soon!
Sincerely,
sandy

I personally can not tell you what to do, but my co-worker is pregnant, and she was so bad off that she had lost almost 20 lbs. She finally went to the Dr. And he prescribe her phenagran (sorry about spelling). That is what they give you during surgery to help provent vomiting. Maybe your Dr. Could do something for you; he might not though, if you are not losing an excessive amount of weight. Just have to check it out. I am sorry that you have had a rough time so far. I hope you start feeling better soon. Good luck!!! Take care of you and baby Wink

Try eating plain crackers or ginger biscuits, gingerbread, ginger cake or ginger ale, or just about anything with ginger in it.
Have lots of small meals, don't try to eat a "full" meal.
Take frequent small sips of plain water, or with a small amount of juice/squash/cordial added, or with a squeeze of lemon (doesn't matter if water is chilled or warm - which ever you like best).
Also see if you can lay your hands on some preggie pops - the thought of the flavours makesme wanna puke anyway but loads of people buy them so they might be worth a try.
If you do feel the need to puke, the best thing is to relax as much as possible and not try to fight it, go with it, I know that sounds awful but it really is best, then when it is done, rinse out your mouth or brush your teeth (to feel more comfortable) and take lots of small sips of water, or maybe try an isotonic sport drink as this will help repace los body salts as well.

Regardless of whether you are going to throw up or not, you need to keep up on fluids, as you drink you absorb some. Keep up on juices and water! Hope you feel better! I was sick with my son when I was about 6 mo, and I ate ice chips all day, yeah I throw them up, but some still got in.

I don't know for sure how harmful this may or may not be to your baby, have you been to your doctor, are you going for a follow up visit since you've been to the hospital? I think it depends on how bad it is, how much you're keeping down, if you've been able to gain any weight at all...

There are meds that can help, but I think they are doctor prescribed.
There are also those sea bands bracelets, they go around your wrist and have a plastic ball that presses a pressure point that helps reduce nausea. I've never used them myself but i've heard they work for some people, you can usually get them in pharmacies.

If you're not keeping anything down see a doctor soon, it's important that you and your baby both get enough nutrients, especially now in early pregnancy when everything is forming.

My step mom had the exact same thing! I forget what she said it was called, but she couldn't get a thing down. She ended up in the hospital for dehydration and was later given a medication you could take durring pregnancy for such an illness. I will get back to u when I find out more about it, but ne way to make a long story short, she ended up have a healthy beautiful girl who is now two years old and this jan. Got preg again. She still has that prob. But they gave her meds as soon as she began her pregnancy. Now she is due on tues. Yay! So good luck and I will get back to u with that info!
