Umm...Okay...Im about 9 weeks into my
pregnancy and so is my sister (also 17)
and neither of us have been to the doctor
yet. We took the initiative and got
applications for medicade. But my mom
and here dad will not help us with filling
them out. The babys fathers are of no
help either. Im afraid if we dont get to
the doctor soon something bad is going to
happen to our unborn children...Do you
have any suggestions for getting my mom
off her butt and helping with this a
little? Oh and im having horrible mood
swings the past few days. Ill cry,
scream, be sarcastic and get mad over
stupid little thing......My family is
starting do get angry with me and they
dont understand that its my hormones!
What can I do if anything to help the mood
swings stop!!?!?

Dear lil,
i'm not sure what to advise on dealing
with your mum, I guess you know her better
than anyone. Is there someone at medicade
who can help you with filling out the
forms ? Maybe your doctor would help with
that. I guess the most important thing to
do now is concentrate on getting your
doctor's appointment in order and starting
pre natal vitamins as soon as possible.
You will also need to start taking folic
acid which your doctor will explain more
about, and you may need to take iron
tablets which your doctor will decide on
also.

Okay sweetie....I have experience in this
one. I got on medicaid when I was
pregnant at 16. Job and family services
is probally where you got your forms. Go
to the front desk and tell them you need
some help filling out the papers. There
is a person whos job is just for that
reason. They will help and get you where
you need to be. Dont be afraid to ask
questions because thats what their there
for. When you get this done ask them if
the health department can help you with
getting on the right track with seeing
someone to get your prenatals. You need
to be on them as soon as you find out.
That baby needs them. Also, call your
doctors office and tell them your medicaid
is pending and you need to be seen.
Everytime I had pending they got me in for
a appointment and didnt ask for money or
nothing. Job and family services can tell
you everything you can do to get help and
get started. Good luck. Hope this helps.

What im seeing is this isnt really the
responsibility of your mom to jump at your
call for something, even though she should
help, you and your sister need to do this
because you both are pregnant, not her.
This is something for you to figure out
because you are going to be a mother,
independant. You cant depend on your mom
to rush for you and your sis. I dont
think its that hard to fill out the forms
if the both of you sit there and go over
the questions and fill them out together,
but if you really cant figure it out then
go to the place where you got your forms
and ask them for help. After that, they
submit it for you and they appoint you to
a doctor. You need to control your temper
a little bit too, even though your
hormones are raging, its no excuse to
scream and shout and get upset over little
things, because it only makes your family
upset and it doesnt make them want to help
you. You need to go to the store and get
prenatal vitamins until your doc gives
them to you at all. So work on that. If
you want to scream...Scream in a pillow.
If you want to hit, hit the pillow. Dont
take it out on your family. You need to
eat healthy foods and have snacks like
fruits and veggies. Milk and orange juice
are good sources for vitamins. Since you
and your sis are preg. Then both of you
start walking everyday for excersize for
about an hour. It helps the labor. But
speed up the process on the forms, so you
can see a doctor.

I Dont Think Posted: 10-03-03 17:31pm
I dont think medicaid appoints a dr for u.
I dunno it might be different in other
states but I got to choose mine and I got
in with the best practice in the county.
Lol. So medicaid is good I am getting
some of the best care in the state of
florida. So these girls might want to
look into that and get into a private
practice instead of a public clinic if
they can. And by the way grl, I have
filled out medicaid forms, by myself, in
two different states, and the forms were
very similar. And I am only 14. If you
guys are 17 I think you should be able to
do this on your own. Your supposed to be
weening off ur mothers care. Not
depending even more on her. Just a
thought.

Some doctors take medi-care out here, so
when my sis applied they gave her a doc
that was local and took care of those
things, so I dont know.

Please keep in mind kissybai, this is a
help forum, we are here to help people,
you included. People do not come here to
be put down just because they are unaware
of what to do in their particular
situation. I'm sure you understand this,
even at 14.

If you are concerned about prenatal care
while waiting for medicaid to come
through, visit your local health
department. They have should have some,
even if minimal, prenatal care available.
Also, buy some over-the-counter prenatal
vitamins. Medicaid also doesn't take very
long to come through, so you should be
fine. Just check those things out.
