Medical is really the same way...

The issue is that heavy lifting INCREASES your blood flow after an abortion, be it medical OR surgical.

We tell women to take it easy for 1 week if possible, but obviously it is not always possible.

That's a lie, or just a gross exaggeration. I had a surgical abortion, by the next day, I was feeling 100%. Some women even can leave after their abortion and go to work without any problems. Over-exerting yourself can cause more bleeding for both types of abortion, but recovery from a surgical abortion is many times easier. I for one don't understand why the abortion pill is still so readily given out given the traumatic experiences many women have. In countries where abortion is illegal, I can understand the need, but where it is legal, surgical abortion is almost always easier.

SOOO TRUE REPTAR!!

Surgical is just way easier...

If you were having an abortion at 14+ weeks the recovery is little longer, but early surgical is no big deal.

WE give all women IV sedation, so they cannot return to work the same day. Much too high to do much work Wink

I agree with Cairy and Retar.......I had a surgical, which was not exactly enjoyable, but with the IV sedation (only possible because I went to Florida) I barely remember a thing. I did obviously have the heavy expected bleeding afterwards, but nothing in comparison to what a friend of mine had following her medical abortion.

my medical abortion experience

I just went though this yesterday and I want to share my experience for others who are doing it or thinking about doing it.

I agree with most posts that it is A LOT worse then they make it out to be. My doctor (a man) said it would just feel like a very heavy period (I was 5 weeks). It turned out to be one of the most intense experiences of my life. I think if I had been prepared it wouldn't have been so bad but mostly I was just scared because I didn't think it was supposed to be so bad.

I took the first pill at the hospital then the next 4 that same day which my doctor said was fine. I took ibuprofen and vicodin for pain. I started cramping about an hour after I put in the four pills and it quickly escalated to VERY intense pain, sweating, and nausea. The nausea may have been from the vicodin--the ibuprofen actually helped more with the cramping anyway and I would recommend that.

I was vomiting and cramping and delirious for about 4 hours until I started bleeding. After the bleeding (about an hour) I felt 100 times better and was finally able to eat and my cramping went away.

Today I feel almost 100% just a bit tired from yesterday.

It turns out all of this was normal but at the time I was sure I was going to die.

I would recommend anyone opt for a surgical abortion if possible--there is no way it could be worse than that was.

If you are going through a medical abortion right now just know that it WILL get better and most of what is making you feel so horrible is the result of those pills you took which is basically driving your body into labor. When they wear off (about 6 hours) you will feel so much better. Keep hydrated and use a heating pad on the cramps and know that many women have gone through this and came out just fine. YOU WILL BE OK.
