Hi aimee, I hesitate to say anything one
way or the other. The best idea in this
situation is to be asking a healthcare
professional, such as the doctor who
prescribed celexa, the doctor who will be
taking care of you during your pregnancy,
even a pharmacist.
As to whether a drug like celexa will harm
your baby in utero a public forum with lay
people is definitely not the best place to
get your advice. I would consider this a
serious situation and go straight to the
people who's training includes knowing the
effects of drugs such as these on unborn
babies.
Best wishes, louise

Hi,
thanks but I have done all that and
doctors now a days are just basicaly
useless in my eyes I
have asked all those people you have
mentioned that is why I was just wondering
if anyone on this fourm had any
experiances with antidepressants through
there pregnancies.
Thank you,
amy

What was their reply to you? Yes stay on?
No, try this instead?
There is a site http://www.Motherisk.Org/ that
discusses different drugs and their
effects during pregnancy and
breastfeeding.
i know it can be scary to go off
antidepressants, I did it myself a few
years ago, mainly because I knew i'd want
to start trying for a baby and didn't want
to be on meds during that time. Do you
have a good therapist that you're working
with? That was especially important for
me. And once I went of the meds I took
st. John's wort for almost a year,
tapering off slowly, unfortunately I don't
believe many, if any, studies have been
done regarding safety of st. John's wort
during pregnancy.

Thanks for the links and all of them said
the same thing (not enough information on
the drugs) to know... It is labeled a
catagory c.. & my ob just said to
stop and I told her no I cant I will wind
up in the hospital it has happened before
and then they will shot me up with ativan
to calm me down... I dont get all physco
but I just get paniced and the anxiety
just about kills me it feels like I am
dying... Thats the best way to expalin
how I feel without my meds and I have gone
off them before and that is the last time
I will do something stupid like that cause
that is when they came back even
worse!!!!!! If I could stop I would!!
Thanks for the info.

Hey there! I'm a nursing student (not a
nurse yet!) but I dont mind looking it up
in my drug book when I get home! Of
course, what your doctor says should
definately weigh heavier than anything I
could tell you, but i'll look it up
anyways! As for him saying you needed to
come off of it, but you feel you
cant...Talk to your doc and let him know
you need something in place of celexa.
Most of the times there is another option!
I'll post again when I get home!

Thank you lauren. But the problem is the
docs dont say nothing!! I see my ob for
an ultrasound on the 28th and will ask her
again and see if I get any kind of other
answer from her then just (stop taking it)
cause I know I am not the only person out
here that takes antidepressants(celexa)
and is pregnant
thanks again,
amy

Have you tried going back to the doc that
prescribed celexa in the first place?
Your ob may not understand your need to be
on the drug and is only concerned with
what affects the baby. It sucks that
specialty doctors don't always take
everything into account, but your ob is
not the best person to prescribe you a med
to replace celexa.

I went to my gp that perscribed the celexa
and she said nothing talk to your ob, see
I just get the run around all the time
that is why I just look for other people
that might be in the same boat as me.
now my good friend
took prozac and ativan through 2 of her
pregnancies and they are both normal fine
developed fine and they are now 9 & 7
so I just try to look around the net and
on different fourms and msg boards to see
if I see anything in comparision.
Thanks
amy
ps.
I am just a big time worryer

Sometimes doctors tend to look over
things...Scary I know! Next time, why
dont you try talking to your doctors
nurse! If you can explain the situation
to her she might be able to get him to
figure it out! Also, you could call the
pharmacist and ask them what would happen
if you didnt stop taking the meds while
pregnant! Just go to whoever you can to
get answers! Good luck! I'll see what I
can find later on!

I did email a pharmacist at savon drugs
and they told me: well I will make this
short,
according to information published in the
physicians desk reference in 2004 celexa
carries a pregnancy risk rating c
catagory c: studies have shown that the
drug exerts anmal teratogenic or
embroycidal effects, but there are no
controlled studies in women, or no studies
are available in either animals or
woman.
Thats it.
So I guess I just keep my fingers crossed
huh I
will be asking more questions come my
nexted visit.
Thank you,
amy
