Epidural Question

For those who had an epidural....It dind't
hurt when they put it in your spine? Cuz
they do through your back.... That
doesn't hurt horribly? I am scared to
have one (when I have a kid one day) cuz I
am scared it's going to hurt too bad!

Like I said earlier, I had a spinal block
and they bend u over the side of the bed
or operating table, give u a small shot,
like a pinch, and then ur numb and get the
big shot, I felt it going in my spine, but
it wasnt uncomfortable or painful at all
and within thirty seconds I ws numb,
completely numb, its deffinetly not bad!
I think its all in ur head if u think it
hurts, too me, stubbing my toe hurts more!
Lol...If u dont get one, itll b alot
worse for ya!

Lol stubbing you toe does hurt more!! All
you feel is a little prick when they poke
you with the numbing stuff, and then you
can feel the catheder sliding in, but it
doesnt hurt at all, its just a sliding
feeling. Trust me, them taking my iv out
hurt more than getting the epidural done.
Hell, I would get an epidural every day
for the rest of my life before I would
want to expirience a whole labor w/o pain
meds. can
you tell I really liked the it?

Lol I didnt mean like a peeing catheder...
An epidural is a catherder in your back.
An iv is a catheder also... Its a plastic
tube type deal. I was lucky and didnt
need to get a catheder to pee, they said
if I had to pee, I was supposed to use a
bed pan, and if I couldnt then I would
have to get a cath, but they said that I
more than likely wouldnt be in labor long
enough to have to pee.

What is a spinal tap for? Isnt that when
they remove fluid from teh spine to
test?
A spinal block is basically the same as an
epi just a lil more powerful

When I was twelve I started getting
migraines... Like full blown seeing red
migraines.... And they couldn't figure
out why so after a few ct scans and mri's
they did I spinal tap. I had to lay in
the fetal position and they used the
biggest syringe i've ever seen in my life
to extract spinal fluid out of my spine.
They have to go really slowly so it took
about twenty minutes, but I swear it felt
like hours. Turned out my spinal fluid
was just fine, which was good but in its
own way sucked because I just went through
all that for nothing.

My epidural was painful because I had
hardcore back labor and while they were
puttin the epidural in my back I was
having contractions which didnt help with
my back labor. But once I had that I
didnt feel a thing for a long time. After
I actually gave birth id say about two
hours later I started to feel everything
again lol. I told my mom I wanted to
bring that stuff home with me it was
funny.

My sis had really bad back labour so when
they put the epidural in, she didnt really
feel it. She said now it feels a little
bruised but she'd so do it again. I still
wish I got to have the epidrual lol!

Mine felt a little bruised too but it
didnt hurt bad at all and it was just when
I would bend over. When they gave me
mine, I had to lay on my side, and bring
my knees up and curve my back out. I was
so scared lol I held myself really still
and then I started having a really bad
contraction and I told the dude to hurry
up and finish cuz I wasnt gonna be able to
be still for much longer. Lol he was
already done, and just putting in the
meds. My back started feeling really
really warm, and then my legs, and then I
didnt feel anymore of the contraction I
was having. It was awesome! My mom said
I was really messed up. I thought I was
sleeping for like an hour, but my mom said
that I wasnt asleep ever and I was in lala
land and it was only for about 5 minutes.
I swear to god I was sleeping!! can
ya tell im a huge fan of the epidural? I
wouldnt mind gettin one right now.

I never got the epidural! I got a shot in
the butt and thats it.. But it was neat
cuz, even tho u feel all the pain, its
wonderful to remember it all! The pushing
feeling was soooooo very strong and my sis
on the epidural said she onyl felt
"pressure". Epidural must be great (i
cant really say much cuz I didnt get to
have it) but even without it is wonderful
too! My next time im gonna try to just
use the shot in the butt

Didn't compare at all to the contractions,
and they do it during one, so no it didn't
hurt...

bf has migraines pretty bad.. I don't
know if they are seeing red kind but
really sensitive to light kinds but they
seem to be linked to him eating greasy
food.. But maybe we should have him
checked out one more time just to make
sure so he doesn't rule out his favorite
foods when all he would have to do is have
a spinal tap and it be over with.

No one could figure out what was wrong
with me, until I finally went to a
neurologist. I'd go to a neurologist
before I got a spinal tap anyday. Maybe
him not eating greasy foods is a good
thing though... Who am I to talk, now I
want jack in the box.
