Disgusting. 9 Year Olds Pregnant. Posted: 09-20-04 15:41pm
I remember a doctor telling me about one
of her patients who was 9, and as she was
giving birth she was sucking her thumb,
holding a teddy bear. Now come on.
Then I was showed this article which is
just sick.
Read this...
Nicaraguan public opinion is facing a
controversy over a 9-year-old girl
diagnosed pregnant and with two sexually
transmitted diseases. Supposedly the
girl was raped in costa rica by a
20-year-old male, although her stepfather
is also suspected because he refused dna
tests.

Well number one, whomever that doctor is
they are oh so luckiy that I do not know
them. B/c if I did they would be losing
their lisence right about know. I don't
care what it is about that is a breech of
confidentiality. And even if it were a
situation where the doc by law had to tell
someone, you wouldn't be that person.
Number two, most people on here are teens,
and no matter which way you spin it, a
nine year old isn't that far off from us.
So put it this was if she is 9 and
pregnant, it is for some reason god's
will.
And number three, whomever would rape a
person is sick. Not to mention a young
person.

Although its not the best idea to be
telling people about your patients (esp.
Doctors/nurses talking inside the hosp)
but its not really a breech of
confidentiality if names werent used or
identifying information! I know in
school, we have to be very careful about
that stuff! For every patient I have, I
have to do tons of paperwork on them for
school and if we take copies of records
(like data, lab results...That kinda
thing!) home with us, then we have to cut
off the names and patient id numbers. But
her saying a doctor told her about this
young girl he delivered, is no different
than me coming home and telling my mom
about my patients I had that day...Does
that make sense?
Oh...I didnt even say anything about the
real topic, but I think thats really sad!
There are crazy people in this world!

even if u did, u couldn't do nothing
about. The doctor gave an example. As
long as they didn't use names they are
safe and I quite frank don't care if a 8
or 9 year old gets pregnant the digusting
part was the young girls who gets pregnant
by being raped by family, etc.

actually ,i could do something about it,
down here at least. I know what lauren
posted, but down her you can not give out
any specifics on a patient, not even to
their family without permission. So even
if the doc didn't use the person's name it
would still be a breach of confidentiality
b/c the doc gave out personally
identifying information. Just think, how
many patients has this doctor had, that
were 9 years old, pregnant, sucking ther
thumb and holding a teddy bear during
labor. All of that is personally
identifying esp the age. So yes, I could
have done something about it. You can
tell me that I couldn't all you want. But
the fact is at the facility that I work
at, out don just got fired for the same
thing. And no she didn't use names or
point fingers. But when a couple of
bystanders reported her to the state, she
tried to clean up her act quickly and
still lost her job.
If age wasn't suck a factor to you, well
what was the point of the example that you
gave. If that is the way that you would
like to spin it, well that example had no
merit in your o/p anyway. I agree that a
child getting raped, by a familt member is
disgusting. But that still has nothing to
do with the example, and therefore had
nothing to do with the part of my response
that you commented on.

Slow your roll a little bit there sister.
You all know that my sister is 14 and
still carries a blanket and sucks her
thumb but that doesnt make her disgusting,
nor do you have the right to make fun of
that situation. Some people do it for
comfort.
And yes the doctor should not have said
anything to a patient, but being that my
grandma works in the field I know a little
bit about the law, she didnt tell you whom
the person was or any other personal
information, so she was doing no harm.
Love, stacie

The thought of any woman being raped is
unthinkably disturbing - let a long a
child. Seems to me there is not a
punishment severe enough for a crime like
that.
And, indeed, from what tquartz originally
posted, it wouldn't have been a breach of
doctor/patient privilege. I doubt that
it could even be considered unethical by a
professional committee to share details
such as those without giving specifics as
to the patient involved, or perfectly
telling details. Regardless, I doubt
that there is anything that one could do
as a third party anyway... I believe a
suit for breach of confidentiality has to
be brought by the wronged party. I could
be mistaken though...

Let me make this perfectly clear. If a
doctor or anyone in the healthcare field
releases any information about a patient
(whether it does or does not pertain to
the patient's care), to anyone that does
not have to provide direct care to the
patient (or a person that does provide
direct care to the patient, but the
information is not concerning such care),
it is considered to be a breach of
confidentiality. The fact that the doctor
did not use a name is irrelevant, because
he or she used personally identifying
information. And yes the patient would
have to bring a suit, if any were to be
brought. But just because a patient
doesn't bring a suit, doesn't stop anyone
else from filing a report with the state
and any professional committee that
healthcare professional belongs to. Just
reporting them to an outside professional
committee, can't start anything. But by
law the state has to investigate any such
claim. And if a person would tell someone
something that is none of their business
chances are they'll tell another and
another. And in turn this person will get
caught, and be punished. Now if anyone
would like me to scan in, the part of my
employee manual with these laws and rules,
please let me know so that I can got look
for it.

Wow this is a heated discussion all about
a little girl who got raped and had a baby
at 9. I think we all feel horrible for
her. However a doctor where I live can
tell u about something that has happened
before as long as they dont give out names
that is all that matters. U dont know
who this girl is so how is it breach of
confidenciality?
