Amnio Or Cvs??? Please Help Me Decide! Posted: 09-27-04 17:48pm
I am 36, pregnant for the first time and
due may 1st. My husband and I definitely
want to have either amnio or cvs done, but
we can't settle on which one, despite
talking to several people about it.
What are the pros and cons of amnio vs.
Cvs? Which is safer? Which is more
accurate? Which can diagnose more? I
know that cvs can't diagnose certain
spinal conditions, but I think there's a
blood test (msafp?) that can make up for
it. Is cvs paired with the blood test
just as effective as doing amnio?
In all honesty, we have both agreed that
if something were found to be seriously
wrong we would probably end the pregnancy.
For that reason, our doctor said he would
choose cvs because we can find out the
results sooner. Up until he mentioned it,
we had never considered cvs and just
thought we would go with the more
familiar, seemingly safer amnio.
Bottom line is: we want the best test that
will give us the most accurate results.
...Looking for an argument that will sway
us either way because we're stuck in the
middle!
