What Could Cause This?
Posted: 09-27-04 19:39pm

For about the last 6 months I have had a loss of appetite with weight loss. I have been on various medications for pain relief for a disc problem in my back. I was constantly feeling nauseous and had a lot of stomach pain that I stopped all medication and have been off it for over a month now. I still get stomach aches, sometimes severe almost immediately after eating, I pretty much get some degree of pain each time I eat and drink (coffee etc). The nausea is not as bad now but I have little appetite and feel full after just a few mouthfuls of food. In the last 6 months I have lost about 9kg's. I have very little gas and do not have a problem going to the toilet. I am in pain almost constantly with my back and do not sleep well because of this, could this have any bearing on how I am feeling. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thankyou.

Your stomach problems could be due to the various painkillers you've taken. Prolonged usage of non-opiate painkillers can cause stomach disorders like gastritis or peptic ulcer. You may need gastroscopy to confirm or exclude peptic ulcer. You can also do MRI of the spine to find the reason for that back pain.
