Hernia After Wound From Gastric Bypass Did Not Heal Correct Posted: 10-05-03 20:01pm
I have gasric bypass in march and I had
lots of complications including my
incision being infected. They opened it
up and put a wound vac on it. The wound
had to heal on it's own and when it
finally healed it healed incorrectly and
cause a hernia that makes me look
pregnant. I was wondering if anyone else
has had this problem?? Or am I alone??
No, you are not alone. Infection of the
surgical wound and its dehiscence
(splitting) are most common complications
after any abdominal surgery. This is
especially common for people with
diabetes, advanced age, obesity and trauma
during the post-surgical period. I believe
obesity was the risk factor in your case.
Hernia is probably result of improper
healing of the infected wound. You can
request another surgery (hernioplasty) to
solve the hernia.
