Not Able to Get Pregnant
Posted: 10-02-04 16:45pm

Hello all. I have been reading the posts here for several days, and haven't found one that discusses my concern. Although, some have been helpful.

My husband and I have one 6 year old. We started trying for a second child four years ago. We have proved unlucky. Finally two years ago, I went and had blood drawn to see if I was ovulating. I was.

Then we let two more years pass. But, finally two months ago, we started looking for reasons again. I had my thyroid, progestrone, and insuline levels checked. They were all good. My husband did the sperm analysis. His sperm count was above normal and mobility was excellent. So, last month I went and had a hsg done. That all looked good. No scar tissue or blockages. Doc says to just keep trying.

Has anyone heard of this situation, any ideas, suggestions, etc?

I have used the ovulation strips, stay in bed at least an hour after sex, no real hot showers for him beforehand, no masterbation for him beforehand, etc. All the basic run of the mill suggestions we have tried.

I'm just at a loss. It's gotten to the point that I want to bust out crying everytime I see a baby.

Hi cae,
are you having sex around your fertile time, do you know when you are ovulating and not just that you do ovulate?
The most important thing is to not become fixated on it, the harder you try it seems the longer it takes.
Good relaxed and fun sex is the way forward.
I have ehard so many times of people trying for ages, having fertility treatments, ivf, etc and then they give up. Within a few months of giving up they get pregnant.
So don't plan sex if you can help it, just tease and tease then have a mind blowing evening, go the full works, dress up, go out for dinner (pretend you never met before and flirt) what ever rocks your boat Wink

I'm Sorry

I am so sorry that u r worried. Atleast u already had a baby, there are so many ppl who try harder 4 long time and still unlucky. Like the others said, don't try too hard, just have fun and do not worry.

U have done all the tests, so there is nothing wrong with both of u. So just enjoy.. I do understand how frustrated u r and I am sorry. But as I said think about worst situations. Good luck with ttc. All the best.

Kia_breizzze

i did know exactly when I ovulated this past time. (sept.) I had been using ovulation calculators in the past. But, this last month I went and bought two boxes of ovulation strips. When they said i'd ovulate within 12-36 hours, we were having sex every day. We actually started having sex two days before the strips noticed a level surge. Anyway,, and we continued three days past time.

I didn't know if anyone had heard about "hostile environment for sperm in the cervix." I had read a few things on it, but i'm not getting tested for that. You have to go in within 4 hours of having sex and let the docs see the sperm in action. Anyway, it has something to do with the sperm not being able to get thru the cervix to where it needs to be.

i know I should relax and be patient. But my husband and I agree that if it doesn't happen soon that we should quit trying. We are in our mid thirtys and don't want to be much older with a baby. I see my energy level slowing down from when our first was a baby. I want our second to have just as much of my energetic self as the first.

Sex every day can reduce the sperm count - even that of a healthy male with a good sperm test.
I have heard of some women taking mucinex to help soften the cervical mucus - I can't advise to do this though.
Just a thought but do you have a naturally high body temp.
Sperm need to be kept cool, which is why the testes hang outside the male body.
Make sure he wears loose underpants and no tight jeans, and both of you try to keep cool, maybe have one less blanket at night or drink chilled water. I don't know if it would help, but it can't hurt trying Wink

I have read about unexplained infertility. This is more common when having a 2nd child. Nothing appears wrong, you just can't get pregnant. All I can say is keep trying, and good luck.

Ive always heard when you want a baby really bad and you worry about it a lot you won't get pregnant when you stop worrying you will get pregnant. Look at me ive been having sex for 3 years and nothing has happend. But for me thats good but I do always worry about not having any children and im 21. I woman I knew tried for a few years and then adopted a baby then she found out she was preg. :)when she adopted the baby. Don't worry it will happen.

Patience is a virtue, unfortunately when you want to get pregnant patience goes right out the window. My advice would be to 1 if you smoke stop it reduces your chances of becoming pregnant by 10-15% and if your husband smokes make himstop too because you are around second hand smoke. 2 eat healthy. 3 decrease stress in your life stress is also a big factor with women having a hard time getting pregnant. Also, you may want to have an us of your thyroid done. I have been told that thyriod labs can come back normal but an enlarged overworked thyriod could play into infertility. I wish you the best of luck. Lots of baby dust.

I have been ttc for the past 6 months with no luck... We were advised to have sex every other day for 3 month (starting the day you finish your period until you start it again)... One of the reasons is the male's testicles needs excersicing so with the every other day routine it helps...

If you have no joy after 12-18 months please contact a doctor/obgyn or someone.

If I had done so it could have saved a lot of heart ache and avoided emergency surgury!
