I finally went to see a psychiatrist. He prescribed wellbutrin. I'm on my 8th day. Now I know its pretty early, but when will I begin to notice the med kicking in? So far nothing. I appreciate any feedback.

I am 18 and I was diagnosed with dysthymia when I was 14. I noticed signs of depression from the age of 10 years old. My sophomore year of highschool, the doctor prescribed me different medz over a short period of time. These were paxil, welbutrin, effexxor, zanax, and any other one that u can think of.
Look, im not going to lie to you. The medz do not help. Some people tell me that I didnt give them long enough to take effect, but medz, and councilors, and psychiatrists, and psychologists can not help u. The only thing that can help u is you. I havent had an "episode" of depression in about 3 months. Well, at least not a severe one. Just figure out how to cope with it and deal in ur own way becasue no one can help u but urself.

Hey becky24,

wow. How did you know you were depressed at the age of 8? Was there something that happened? I can recall times during my earlier years as a child where anxiety was present and made me feel sick and uncomfortable. Sometimes I get mad thinking about it because there were many times I appeared a "shy" girl or situations that clearly showed I was very anxious and no one did nothing about it in elementary school! My teachers or parents could not identify it but it was there and obvious that I was suffering from anxiety! And I had to grow up with it, identifying it and battling it """all on my own"""". Growing up with anxiety really bothered me. I didnt know whether the feelings were a normal part of life, or if I was different or what was going on with me. I had to research everything on my own. I learned what anxiety was on my own and at a very young age, and once I read up about it, I truly knew I had it. I even had to seek help out all on my own. I guess it was a good learning experience but some ppl are not mentally strong like I was, so parents and teachers should be more aware to identify and help diagnose and get help for kids at an early age because if they grow up with this anxiety/depression undiagnosed, it can really afect their performance in all aspects of life.

Another question becky. Is your depression keeping you from having or looking for a job? Since you are asking about the supplemental security income. Someitmes I am worried about my future too and worried if I will do good in my career or if I truly like it. It gives me alot of anxiety. Are you currently working? Or are you thinking about working in the future or is this security income all that you want? Im just curious to see how debilitating depression and anxiety can be on someone.....

Yes my depression plays a big part in me finding a job. I have already went through the process of getting s.S.I. I just have to wait on the judge's decision. No I am not working right now. Do you go for counseling or see a doctor for your depression? I am on lexapro for my condition and I see a counselor.
