I am currently taking 100mg/daily of
zoloft for anxiety. I was also
prescribed buspar 5mg/3xdaily to help curb
the anxiety. The anxiety problems run in
my family and were recently brought on
after several months of stressful
situations. Even after I was diagnosed
and prescribed zoloft, I was still having
trouble due to a fear that I had a kidney
problem. I had too much protien in my
urine, not to mention I have hereditary
high blood pressure and it was high.
Well, I went through a good month of blood
tests, an ultrasound, and a cat scan on my
kidneys....All the while I am trying to
battle the anxiety. Well the last time I
went to see my family doctor he prescribed
buspar for me to curb the anxiety.
It took a good month before the zoloft
started working to a level that I could
notice. Now, 4 months later, I still
have anxiety that pops up from time time.
I previously went 2 solid weeks without
any anxiety symptoms and then boom, it
comes back yesterday. Although it is not
nearly as bad and when I sit back and
reflect, the anxiety seems to have gotten
better (although while experiencing the
anxiety, it sure seems like it will never
get better) and people around me can tell
that it is working.
When I get anxiety, it comes in waves
throughout the day for a day or two at a
time. Sometimes it will go away for 3 or
4 days, a week, or 2 weeks and when it
comes back it doesn't seem to be as bad as
it was before. My symptoms are typically
a bad case of nerves, no appetite, tension
tightness in my jaw, hot flashes,
occasional nausea.
I guess the answers I am looking for are:
1.) it is uncommon for it to take 4
months or more to receive full benefit of
zoloft? I have been told that it takes
some people 6 months or more before the
anxiety goes away.
2.) is the combination of zoloft and
buspar good? I have read where these
medicines work well together. I haven't
noticed any side effects since taking
buspar on top of zoloft

Hi, I am currently taking zoloft and
buspar. I was prescribed zoloft 50mg
three weeks ago. I called the doctor and
told her the side effects I was having and
was prescribed 10mg of buspar. I am a lot
happier and carefree. I feel totally
different however, one problem remains. I
still have the anxiety and worst of all
the sweat spells. When I start to sweat a
little it really brings on my anxiety. I
am going to the doc on thursday, I am
going to ask for something different than
buspar. I do like the zoloft except it
takes forever to finish having sex. I am
not sure your medicine would just stop
working after several months. Maybe you
built up your tolerence.

I like this combo. Maybe I just need a
dosage increase. I increased last
thursday to 75mg of zoloft. I know you
are looking for advice but if you think
you have any advice, please share. Thanks

I started out at 25mg in the starter pack.
But I think I hurt myself more in the
beginning because I went on a business
trip 2 days after starting the medicine.
I had to drive 6 hours to alabama by
myself and it was pure horror. I was
gone from monday thru thursday and it was
pure hell. I started taking 50mg while
in alabama and a week after I was home I
was bumped up to 100mg. Right after I
started taking the 100mg, I had a pretty
bad medical scare. After I took a urine
test for my doctor, he found too much
protien and I had to have tests run to see
if I had kidney damage/failure. I also
have high blood pressure and take medicine
for it. I had to 2 several 24 hour urine
tests, had to have an ultrasound and ct
scan done on my kidneys.....All the while
I was trying to battle anxiety. About 3
weeks ago I was given buspar to curb the
anxiety, but was a bit apprehensive about
taking more medicine, but I started to
take buspar the other day.
The only side effect I have had with
zoloft is the sexual side effect. I
experienced some skin tingling and burning
sensations in my skin, but my doctor said
it was caused by anxiety. They say to
keep taking the zoloft and to not get
discouraged if you don't feel better right
away. I want to think all the crap I
went through after I started taking zoloft
may have delayed the process of me getting
better. I do have good days and bad, and
I go several days or even a couple of
weeks without having any anxiety. I
figure that if the medicine stopped
working, all my bad symptoms would come
back and not go away. The anxiety I feel
now is mild compared to how I felt 3 or 4
months ago.
