Is Lieing a Part of Being Bi Polar?
Posted: 10-13-04 00:58am

That's just something I wanted to ask. Dont' get offended I actually think someone needs to go to this forum and talk with you guys, but I wanted to check and make sure lieing is part of being bi polar or being a hypochondriac. Along with all the other stuff like spontaneous outburst of anger.

Lieing

Exactly what are you implying? And what do you mean by you guys? Does this mean you are just randomly checking out forums that have absolutely nothing to do with you or anyone else in your life, just to be judgemental?

Just thought i'd check.

Lies Oh the Lies...
Posted: 10-31-04 21:08pm

As a bipolar person now I would say no, I do not lie. Not part this disease.

More of a character flaw that we learn from out enviroment.

Just joined a dialective behavioral therapy group and they have us chart our lies every day.

We may lie and say no, i'm not angry, {to you} but boy we are angry and it shows in our facial expression etc.

I do this all the time because I am afraid to show you my real feelings.

Okay for my next question. Why would you have to chart your lies if it's not part of your disorder? Wouldn't that be kinda the point to see how far you have progressed with controlling your disorder? So from reading your post i'm assuming it is cause you totally contradicted yourself. So no that's not really answering my question because you totally confused me. Rolling Eyes

Hang on a minute here, I think that pitterpatter has a point.

Maybe someone in pitterpatters family is bipolar and tells lies, and he/she is trying to find out if its the bipolar that causes it?

I'm bipolar and find that I stretch the truth a lot in order to make myself sound less boring in conversation, and have told quite a few lies in the past. I'd be interested to know whether this is part of bi polar... But for me I have dual diagnosis and have borderline personality disorder too so who knows Rolling Eyes think I am just fcuked anyway Crying

Now I am bipolar and when I was younger I was a compulsive lier I would lie for no reason at all and lie about the most stupidest things.. You could have told me that my hair was blonde and I would have dissagreed. I believe that it is a part of the disorder.. I know with mine I could lie to someone and then believe myself that my lie was true I dont know why I lied all the time they just somewhat slipped out of my mouth.. It is hard to explain... But I think that it is a part of the disorder...

Thats the thing I find - I just can't help it! Or saying stupid things.. I just seem to go into 'motormouth' mode... Rolling Eyes

What are you people talking about?? I'm involved with a mental health group and am also a "bi-polar" if thats what you want to call me. Personally I referred too myself as me, and also someone who lives with an illness. I'm also (believe it or not) a nurse who works in an acute care facillity where we have a certain # of beds funded for the mentally ill, therefore i'm also exposed to many different illness. I'd have to say, that with my experiences as somewone who has this illness for 10yrs. (formally dx) and with my work experience (14yrs.) that lieing would be a personallity tait--don't get upset, buts that's my opion. Tell the guy to stop lieing and stop using his illness as a crutch. I get really offended when people blame "things" on their illness. When in a manic state it is possible to become a motor mouth as someone mentioned, but lieing doesn't behold this illness. It's time to be real.

Hmmm, I find that hard to believe unfortantly! This is just because every person that i've ever met that was bi-polar tends to lie and believe them. It's a commen part of bi-polar people. Maybe you don't, but I bet others think you do. But hey you don't have to listen to me i'm just stating what I know. It just happens to be that it's not what you know.

Not a Liar!!

I find it sad that you don't believe me, and my experiences. Now I can only speak for myself, and what people i've interacted with say. But I know that I don't, as I live my life openly and don't need to lie, but you probably won't believe me either when I tell you that I don't have any aggressive tendencies either. Every one is affected differently, and I just don't lie, and i'm not aggressive. I do alot of yoga and meditate to help releave my tensions, and work out also. I guess i'm one of the lucky ones, but I work at it . You don't have to lie or say/do cruel things to the ones we're close/love with. But I write to express my opinion, not to prove anything.

My bi - polar disorder symptoms aare depression that leads up to fear of people and fear of the outdoors and panic unreasonble paranoia and then to a catatonic state of hazzy nothingness. This all takes place in the time span of about two weeks and then the high, an instantanious burst of reactionary energy. High confidence and feelings of extreme power and euphoria/mania, tolerence for people goes way up and I can often shift my entire reality within this time e.G. Who my friends are - where I live - what province I live in - seperate from or accumulate many personal items - I have lived in over 50 different homes and have been close with almost everyone and they almost all hate me now. Sometimes I cry about them sometimes I don't care at all. Lying is not part of my disorder, being accused of lying because of all the strange things I 've done in my life is, because often times I appear normal. :

it is a lie but not intentionally. I hope u understand this see, with this disorder, you say things you think are the truth knowing they are not because you have no way to control it. One knows in mind its not true but yewt, must lie to convince ones self that it's the truth. Do I make sence Question

Bipolar Boyfriend Thinks I Lie,
Posted: 12-22-04 00:03am

Now I don't know if it is his bipolar or his persoanlity
so bare with me

but my boyfriend thinks I lie often :(
he wants me to take a lie detector test, which I would, I have no problem with that, I just don't have the money for it.

He often does not remember things, I repeat my self, the story so many times, and he says, I never said any such thing... After months of this, I am losing my patience with repeating stories, things often
he is too young for any memory problems as dementia, alzehimer's

( he remembers so many other things, just when it has to do with me)

bipolar disorder fascinates me though
heck, the human mind fascinates me, as we are all so multi level and full of emotions...

Thanks for listening :)
