Missing Period, Not Pregnant Posted: 10-22-04 19:41pm
I've been on the pill for 5 years, i've
always had regular periods until about 5
months ago, they started coming on
wednesday instead of sunday and they were
very light and only lasted 3 days instead
of 6, this month I was supposed to start
on the 17th and have'nt, I took 3
pregnancy tests which were all negative so
i'm not pregnant, so what could be the
cause of this for someone who usually has
a normal regular cycle? I have a doctors
appt on the 4th of nov, but I just want
some insight now if theres anyone who can
shed some for me
thanks

But i'm in the same situation .
I've been on the pill for about 6 years,
and 4 months ago skipped a period so that
I wouldn't have the
cramps/headache/backache on the day of my
final law school exam .
The next month had my period arrive 2
days late, it never had been late
before..... And it was incredibly light.
So I freaked out and bought pregnancy
tests. Both came back negative, so I
didn't worry too much.
But the next month was still so light.
Two more pregnancy tests came back
negative, but i've heard of people having
spotting throughout their pregnancy, so
i'm still slightly worried.
Any chance that four pregnancy tests were
wrong? Or what else could cause the
dramatic change in my period?
Sorry to hijack your thread, but I think
that whoever can answer your question will
probably be answering mine too :d

I don't know what's going on, I just think
it's pretty strange that both of us have
always had normal cycles and now all of a
sudden they are becoming irregular. I
could see if they had always been
irregular, the only other time I missed my
period, I was pregnant, I guess i'll just
have to wait and see what the doctor says
on the 4th, I will let you know. I ead
that if you are'nt pregnant and you miss a
period then that means you did'nt ovulate
which is what the pill is supposed to do
(keep you from ovulating) but if that's
the case then would'nt that mean I would
have no period the whole time I was on the
pill? I must be ot understanding that
very well. Anyhow, like I said I will let
you know what the doctor says.
Thanks

So you're both on the pill currently?
You can have your period and not ovulate,
but you cant ovulate and not have your
period, unless youre pg. Bc does stop
ovulation through hormones,progesterone
mostly, which tells your body it's not
time to make an egg. When you take the
sugar pills those hormones decrease
telling your body it;s time to shed your
lining. Basicly, your body is stuck in
the second 1/2 of your cycle thinking it's
already ovulated and waiting to start
menstruation.
I dont know what to tell you about your
late periods and changing cycles, i've
never taken bcp's.
Did that make sense?
