Stomach Problems
Posted: 10-11-03 16:20pm

Hi there. I am a 41-year-old female, not overweight, exercises regularly. I had my gallbladder out seven years ago. Ever since then, my bowels have not been regular and I swing between diarrhea and constipation, more to the constipation side, what my doctor termed as irritable bowel disorder. For five years, I have taken citrucel every day and been relatively regular. I have been watching what I eat and not over-indulging, I don't think. Over the past few weeks, I have had symptoms reminiscient of my gallbladder pain, high on the right side, a feeling of stomach fullness, not being able to eat much at one time, and feeling slightly nauseated when I do eat. I am able to pass gas and bowel movements; however, not very regularly as of late. An ultrasound showed no retained common bile duct stone, as I was hoping. My doctor is going to refer me to a gastro doctor for more tests. I am eating but not enjoying it as I used to. This is very frustrating and I have no idea what this could be and I am tired of feeling sick and not having energy from not eating. My doctor assures me I do not have anything "bad" going on, like cancer, but I am still upset and scared. I used to enjoy working out and walking and I cannot do that now. Trying to take care of my kids, house, husband, and work part-time is also a strain. Any of you out there with similar complaints?

Suzanne.
Youre not alone! Although im only 16 years old, I suffer from what they diagnosed as functioning constipation....From what you have described, it sounds like your symptoms are from your bowels, not your gall bladder...But im not a doc so I could be wrong....But I would definitely go to a gastro dr because this isnt something u should take lightly....Ive suffered with this ever since 6th grade....But have been in denial up until 3 years ago...Its been a little over a year since I have been properly diagnosed.

I tried citrucel back in the day when they didnt know what was going on with me...And let me tell you, laxatives, medicines, anything unnatural like that will eventually wear away your colon....My condition has gotten to the point where ive had to go up to the hospital and get "cleaned out" several times....Im also on a medicine called miralax....It helps the muscles in the colon to contract, helping to produce a bowel movement...

Im now on the up swing of things and trying my hardest not to have to go back up there and get this procedure again....But in the meantime while your waiting to get in to see the gastro doc....Drink a lot of water, that was a huge solution for me....Youd be amazed at how water helps move things along.....Good luck and if you need any info on this stuff(im a pro lol) please feel free to pm me anytime
