Q: What Is the Line?

My sister is 8 months pregnant. For like the past 2 months, people have been asking her if she has her line yet. She does have a line down the middle of her belly, but neither of us know what it is or what it is for. Can someone help please?

I dunno jess I think it either should have shown up by now or maybe it doesnt show up until like 6 or 7 months but I am not sure, I think it should have already shown up. I have a line down my tummy but its just my happy trail it got dark and thick when I got pregnant but my mom says it will go away after I have the baby. I dont think its the same as the line most women get though so I dont think I have it.

I believe that line was for way back in the day when c-sections were done vertically. They are done horizontally so there is less scar tissue and less blood loss. I'm black and my line is there now but i'm not pregnant it will just get darker when I become pregnant

Ok here is the deal some women have increased levels of certain hormones that cause what is called lina negra. It is mostly seen in darker skinned women. Some women get it and some don't. Nothing is wrong with you if you do or do not get it, and it can appear at any time.

I do! Check out my pictures "30wk pictures and some goodies", I always had the line below my belly button, which is called a happy trail, but the one above my belly, I got that during pregnancy.
