My husband had a heart attack july 13h and
had a stent placed in the anterior atery.
We were told at the time he had 100%
blockage of the atery in the back of the
heart but had grown a shunt around it.
Dr. Wanted to do a stress test a few
months after the hear attack to see if the
heart muscle was still viable from the
blockage and whether we should try to
stent it. Long story short we tried to
stent the artery and couldn't get through.
Dr. Says he doesn't recommend a
bypass.
Problem is my poor husband is very
concerned. Dr. Wanted to stent it for a
reason. The test showed that the shunt he
grew does ok when he is at rest but can't
keep up with exercise. Does this mean
that everytime he is working hard he is
killing off heart muscle and thus
shortening his life? I know he has other
questions but this is the only one he has
voiced to me.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks

Blocked Artery Posted: 01-10-05 06:05am
My husband had triple bypass surgery 19
years ago when he was 45, since then he
has had 4 sents put in. He had another
heart attack but didnt really know he was
having one in sept. They gave him a
stress test which was halted half way
through. He was then advised to have a
angio gram to see what was going on. He
had this in dec. And was told that the
back artery was closed and that it was
impossible to re open as in fact it had
died. The other three arteries are
working fine at the moment with only a
slight occulsion in each one. He is in no
pain but gets very tired. Our dr says
that at the moment no further treatment is
needed just to carry on with his
medication and monitor his blood and
cholesteral.
Like you I am worried as this must do
something to have an adverese effect on
his heart etc. I feel that we have been
told to go away and stop being a nusiance.
I am sorry that I do not have an answer
for you but if you find out could you
please let me know. Thanks gill
