Delayed Reaction to Antibiotics?
Posted: 11-02-04 09:30am

I've been on an antibiotic called biaxin for about 10 days for the treatment of a sinus infection. A few days ago I began to feel subtle nausea, and on sunday morning I was nautious enough to start dry heaving...That's the only time that happened. I know that nausea and vomiting are among common side effects, but why am I getting them after taking the pills for so long?

I'm also itching like crazy for no reason, which i'm assuming could be an allergic reaction.

.........

Don't know if this is any reason for concern, but i'm having a more difficult time breathing and/or catching my breath in gym class.

....

Is it possible I could be having a delayed reaction to these antibiotics? Is such a condition normal?

Took your advice, pattyv. I spoke to my ent - she said that my nausea was not from the antibiotics, and then she game me clairitin for the itching, which had subsided beforehand. As for the breathing difficulty, well...After an intense workout on monday afternoon, my legs are sore enough to prevent running... O.O

but if it's not the antibiotics, what's making me sick?

I highly doubt this, but could the combination of medications i'm taking be messing me up? Currently I am taking biaxin (antibiotics), birth control (but not sexually active), prevacid, motrin ib, and tylenol sinus.

And the nausea is not near my stomach all the time - sometimes it localizes beneath my rib cage. I feel a light cramping pain in my stomach as well.

.........

Conclusion: i'm dying!

You are not!!!You are way stressed and your body can only handle so much stress before it gives up and you start to have physical symptoms of stress. You are so young and stressed out, you need to do something to help relax yourself or you will make yourself sicker!!!Please talk to your doctor about all your symptoms, maybe she/he can reccommend a stress reduction program for you. Many are geared to teens.Good luck.Patty

I was only being sarcastic when I said I was dying...But no tone of voice on the internet can be a killer sometimes. O.O

i'm not stressed about my health (too badly)...It just annoys me that i'm getting all these weird ailments at the same time. But the only thing I can say is this: be it stress or the antibiotics making me sick, it's doing a good job - I have only taken in coffee and tea for the past couple of days because I feel too sick to eat.
