Forwarning~if this post gets outta hand,
i'll deleat it as fast as I posted it.
Are you for or against the death penalty
and why?
I am 100% death!
"if we are to abolish the death penalty, I
should like to see the first step taken by
my friends the mur derers."
-- alphonse karr (1808-1890)
"if we execute mur derers and there is in
fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a
bunch of mur derers. If we fail to
execute mur derers, and doing so would in
fact have deterred other mur ders, we have
allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent
victims. I would much rather risk the
former. This, to me, is not a tough
call."
john mcadams - marquette
university/department of political
science, on deterrence
“it's because I have so much regard for
human life that I favor capital
punishment. homicide is the most
terrible crime there is. Anything less
than the death penalty is an insult to the
victim and society. It says…that we
don't value the victim's life enough to
punish the killer fully." - mike royko
it is often said that mur derers are the
criminals least likely to repeat their
crimes.
Does that statistic matter if you become
the victim of one who bucks the trend?

For. Of course just like any of us I
think there should be other options for
things like involuntary manslaughter,
which isn't really homicide anyway, but I
think if you knowingly kill, you should be
punished accordingly.

For. If you kill, you should then be
killed... But then again, what does that
solve..
I am for in some situations I guess. Like
my dad didnt kill anyone but the man was
in a coma for 2 months and they wanted to
kill my dad, I dont agree there, I do
agree with him getting 5-10 for aggravated
assault though..
You get the point.

I agree with it.... If someone kills
another person or more than one person in
a horriable way they should get it....
But I think that spending the rest of the
persons life in jail is worse but I do
agree with the death pletntly

Agree with it. But I think we should use
a rope and save our tax money, I mean, you
can use a rope over and over again and it
isn't expensive. That's my theory.

We, as humans, have no right to take a
life... Even a life that has taken
another life. I believe that .God is the
only one who can do that. Although we can
put them in prison and judge them that
way, I believe that only .God should judge
them in the manner or life or death.
Also, there are so many things that can go
wrong with trials and evidence. Before a
certain date (i don't exactly remember the
date) it has been proven that at least 2/3
of the people who were put to death were
proven innocent at a later date, and even
today, approximately 1/3 of the people who
have been put to death have been proven
innocent. Why should we continue to take
innocent lives? Yes, it's more expensive
to put a person in prision for life, but
itsn't it worth it if we save at least one
wrongly accused life?
So, in short, i'm definitely against the
death penalty.

god tells us to use capital punishment in
the .Bible. If you're using .God to back
up your beliefs, you must be *for* capital
punishment.
Exodus 21:14-17
but if a man willfully attacks another to
kill him treacherously, you shall take him
from my altar, that he may die. "whoever
strikes his father or his mother shall be
put to death. "whoever steals a man,
whether he sells him or is found in
possession of him, shall be put to death.
"whoever curses his father or his mother
shall be put to death.
Verse 23-25:
if any harm follows, then you shall give
life for life, eye for eye, tooth for
tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn
for burn, wound for wound, stripe for
stripe.

Wow I dont know. But those people deserve
to take the consequences. They wouldn't
have to go through if they didn't do
anything in the first place. I'm for it.

I support the death penalty 100%
although, there are so many holes in our
government that a lot of times innocent
people get sentenced to death. For
instance, a man was in jail for 5 years
for 10+ rapes and mur ders and just before
he was supposed to be put to death they
found that he was completely innocent from
all of those crimes.
So...It kind of scares me a little when we
do put someone to death...Because who
knows, maybe he/she was innocent.

I havent really decided on the issue yet,
but I say let the punishment fit the
crime....Sometimes life is worse than
death....If youre even a human being
inside

True. The bible does teach in the .Old
.Testament that capital punishment is ok,
but if you look in the .New .Testament,
you'll see that it's not.
"but I say unto you, that ye resist not
evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on
thy right cheek, turn to him the other
also." -matthew 5:39
"and these shall go away into everlasting
punishment: but the righteous into life
eternal." -matthew 25:46
"this moses whom they refused, saying, who
made thee a ruler and a judge? The same
did god send [to be] a ruler and a
deliverer by the hand of the angel which
appeared to him in the bush." -acts 7:35
god is the only one who can punish a
person for a certain wrong. It's like the
old saying "two wrong's don't make a
right." and my opinion isn't soley based
on my religous beliefs. It's mainly based
on the historical fact that so many
innocent people have been put to death
because of tarnished evidence or the
inability to properly process it. I just
don't think it's right to condemn another
person to death.

i see your point here, but I believe this
verse in particular is talking about
immediate retribution on the part of
someone who does not have the authority to
exercise retribution. Jesus also says in
the .New .Testament "give unto .Caesar
what is .Caesars and unto .God what is
.God's." he's not just talking about
taxes. He's also saying that governments
are there for a reason, and that we are to
subject ourselves to them when they don't
directly contradict .God's .Word.

these don't have anything to do with gov't
having or not having authority to punish.
They only say that .God does.
Are you saying that you believe the gov't
never has the authority to punish?

I'm not saying that the government doesn't
have the ability to punish... On
contrare! If that were so, the world
would be in absolute chaos! I just
believe that .God is the ultimate judge
and that we don't have the right to take a
life. The ultimate punishment is eternal
damnation and we shouldn't punish people
based on life or death.
"you shall not m*rder." -exodus 20:13
if we take a life for a life, isn't that
the same is murdering somebody? I think
that it most definitely is! A life taken
is a life taken... No matter in what way
(homicide/death penalty).
And as for immediate retribution, it all
depends on how you traslate it.
