Ms And Gastric Bypass
Posted: 11-04-04 11:39am

I am 23 and I have been living with ms for three years. I am currently on copaxone and I eat healthy and exercise regularly.
I have had several ms attacks in the past years, but they are the same three that just keep reoccurring (face numbness/tingling, optic neuritis, vertigo, fatigue, etc.)
my problem is that I have been overweight my whole life and I just can't seem to loose more than 10 lbs. I find that if I eat less and exercise more, I can loose a few more lbs. But I end up becoming fatigued and nautios.
Recently, someone told me about the gastric bypass procedure and how they had gotten the surgery and were very successful.
My question is will the procedure affect my ms in any way? Does anyone on this forum who has ms gotten this surgery or know someone with ms who has?

Please help.
Thanks!

Gastric bypass surgery can be done if your body-mass index is over 40 (or over 35 but also having comorbide conditions) and if the other overweight treatments did not help. Multiple sclerosis is not a contraindication for gastric bypass surgery.
Can you tell me your weight and height?
Do you have diabetes and any heart disorder?
