Ok, erin, since your the computer genius,
I want to ask you a few things, hopefully
you can help me, I know you know alot
about computers, but im not sure how
much...
My mom wants to get a new computer and
wants me to go help her pick a good one
out. What is a good computer? Shes
already got a brand new monitor (her old
one took a crap, and now the rest of the
computer is taking a crap)... She doesnt
want anything really expensive, but she
wants it to be nice... What would be the
best to get? Compaq (crappy! Thats what
her last one was), emachines, hewlit
packard? Can you buy dells in stores?
And just get the tower part thing (lol
sorry, im partially computer illiterate)
lol I cant really think of anymore, but
she wants a computer with windows. And
what should we look for/watch out for?
But yea, shes already got a new monitor,
and a new printer/scanner/copier thing so
all she wants to buy is that tower thing
(lol, what is it called?)

If you know anyone who knows how to build
a computer, i'd recommend building it
yourself! You can usually get a better
deal. Mike and I just built brand new
computers (one for each of us) for about
$300 combined. If you're lucky, you can
get one at a store for $300. If not,
dell is a great brand.

What stores can you buy dells at? Ive
never seen them in a store, and kevin
wants to buy a dell, and ive heard they
are good computers, so maybe my mom should
get one... And they are inexpensive

The only computer guy my mom knows (i dont
know anyone) is the one that messed up her
computer in the first place... He went in
it to put in more ram and ever since then
it says sometimes "hard drive detects
immenent (sp?) failure" and every time you
try and turn it on it you have to press
f1 to boot it up.

Lol uh oh! Sounds like he scratched the
motherboard. Easy to do, but not
repairable! Do you know the specs of her
current system?

Loll this might make me sound dumb, but
what are the specs? What I know is that
she used to have like 60 ram, but now its
like 264 or something, lol but im not
sure... What I do know is shes got
windows 98, alot more ram than she used
to, and her cd-rom drive doesnt work, and
neither does her rewritable drive...

Do you know how fast her processor is?
Should be something like 800 megahertz or
1.6 gigahertz. Course the number will be
different but either megahertz or
gigahertz.

Oh wow, I have no clue... Why? I can
call her and have her look on the
sticker... Lol they never took the
sticker off after buying the computer, and
I know for a fact thats on there. She
said she might just take the thing in and
have somebody fix it... But the her
computer guy friend said that its not even
worth fixing and she should just get a new
one... I asked her if bill was the one
that messed it up and she said "no! Its
just a peice of crap!" so I really think
that bill did do something and he doesnt
want to admit it, so he is telling her its
junk and to just get new one, he wont
even look at it for her, she told him what
it was saying. Otherwise, why wouldnt my
mom just have him fix it? I dont want her
to get that one fixed, shes gonna give it
to me when she gets a new one, then I can
have yahoo messenger finally. I dont mind
having to press f1, and I dont mind it
when it just randomly stops working, I
just wont do anything important on it...
Lol i'll just use it for yahoo messenger,
and for uploading pics off my digital
camera. She wants to get a computer with
lots of memory and speed, and faster
internet ability crap... What should we
look for to get that?

Dude your gettin a dell! Haha those are
really great computers though, tell her to
make sure she gets one with a pentium
processor (the newer ones are a 4) and
the more gigahertz the comp has the faster
it will be, also look at the size of the
ram, the newer ones have like 500 or 600
or faster, if you want one with a lot of
space on the hard drive to store pics they
have ones now that will hold up to 280
gigabytes, but in reality you really dont
need all that much space unless you just
want to pile a bunch of stuff on your
comp, maybe get one with at least 60 gigs
or so. I can find good deals online for
you if you want me to.
