Excessive Dry And Peeling Lips Posted: 11-04-04 20:18pm
Unfortunately I used a lip mask and lip
scrub product on my lips over a year ago
and my lips have never been the same
since. I have two areas on my lips that
constantly peel off in sheets and the rest
of my lip is dry and chapped-rarely
looking okay. I have formed some bad
habits now after dealing with this for so
long- I do tend to pull the skin off when
it gets so bad. I have tried carmex,
chapstick, neosporin, aquaphor-to no
avail. I am putting various lip balms on
my lips a lot and of course I can never
stop. The skin on my lips looks okay for
a few days, then starts sloughing off
again.
I am diabetic and have psoriasis in other
areas of my body, but I don't think these
are causes.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I have never had probs with my lips that
bad, however I do know that you really
should try to stay away from most over the
counter chapsticks. They have an ingred.
In them that makes your lips addicted to
them. You should try bath and body works
lip balm (i think theirs is better, but
not pos) or try mary kay lip scrub and lip
balm. Trust me they are great!

I have the same problem, although I never
used a lip scrub (whatever that is). My
lips peel on a daily basis in large
chunks, and bleed quite often. It never
gets better, and has been this way for
years. I also have other skin
conditions, although I doubt they are
related.
If you find anything that helps, please
let me know!

Have you guys asked a doctor or
dermatologist? When I was on accutane
for acne it gave me the same symptoms.
My doctor gave me a great ointment that
helped heal my lips. If I can find the
name i'll let you know.. It's been awhile
since I was on it.

Try a petrolium based ointment called
bagbalm, either that or utter butter I
used these products while I was on acutane
for a year and they realy helped,
sometimes putting lotion on your lips can
help as well... It does sting a bit if
they are realy chapped.. Hope it helps

I have the same problem, and have had it
for a long time (5 years or more?) for the
past year I have stopped using chapstick
(which I was addicted to) and tried to let
my lips heal. The way that they peel has
changed since I stopped using chapstick
(and stopped physicall peeling them when
there were pieces of skin hanging  )
it went from really thick skin (kinda like
scabby) to thin skin. I bought a mirror
and scissors to carry around and instead
of peeling the lips I 'trim' the loose
stuff. I am hoping the skin is just
trying to grow back to normal. These are
some things I was thinking it may have
been caused by
-i usto bite my lips alot when younger
-i have a permanent retainer from braces
-nutrition problems
-i have a pretty acidic saliva I think
(have had starts of ulcers)
-i also live in a dry climate (prairies)
went to a doctor once and it was try
lipbalms like blistex....Useless!

I had the same problem and tried "lush"
lipbalms which really helped. Go for the
ones without cocoa butter in, like
whipstick and lite lip.
