My 5 year old son has had no food
allergies to date. He had a breakout of
hives in the middle of the night. He has
had them on and off for a week and has
been hive free for 4 days now. He had a
mild cold at the time of the break out.
The doctor feels it is probably due to the
cold but that you can never rule out food
allergy. He had a peanut butter cup 5
hours before he broke out in hives. I am
so nervous that he has developed the
dreaded peanut allergy. He loves nuts,
chinese food etc. Etc. The nurse told
me to wait for a week and then give him
some peanut butter 4 hours apart and see
what happens. Has anyone ever heard of
an older kid developing anaphylaxis from
peanut allergy. I am so scared to test
him!!

Allergies can develop at any age.
Personally, I would be very leery to test
him as well, since you think it is a
peanut allergy. You could always take him
to the er...I'm sure they would be
accomodating, or you could simply make an
appointment with an allergy specialist and
go from there...
I hope you get the help you need/want,
