Bad Root Canal Posted: 10-14-03 15:25pm
Hi all,
i had a root canal finished in the end of
may.
I had major headaches all last week and
realized (just on the weekend) that it was
that root canal causing them!
What would cause this? Infection?
Rejection? I don't know but it didn't
hurt until last week.
I do know that the last filling I got
(june) was, in the dentists words, 'pretty
deep'. The next day I was in extreme
pain! She said that my tooth is rejecting
the filling and that she has to do a root
canal now. I asked her that if she knew
it was pretty deep why didn't she do a rc
in the first place, she said that
sometimes the filling is enough.
Whatever! So I took 2 ibuprofens every 2
hours for 3 weeks until she could squeeze
me in. She told me that it is quite
common for people's teeth to reject
fillings. I've never heard of this
before, have any of you?
I don't feel that she is competent (sp?)
and just keeps hurting me and giving me
root canals to get my $$'s!! She seems
more concerned about whitening and
cosmetics than the pain. I guess that
i'm paying for all the years (ya, I said
years) that I didn't go to the dentist.
What is she going to do with this hurtin
rc? I read below that you can drill into
them like teeth. What if it breaks? I
don't want to pay for this tooth all over
again! It's too expensive.
Any comments?

Call an endodontist (they specialize in
root canals) alot of general dentists do
root canals but if it were me...I'd want
to see a specialist....Usually rc's dont
cause headaches...Good luck

If the dentist missed a canal in the tooth
or failed to clean one out
properly then you have a very good chance
that an infection will develop.
Most dentists will do at least 2 and
generally three endo treatments
before they even consider putting in the
root filling.
The dentist should be carefully x-raying
the tooth to ensure she
is right down to the end of the canal and
that there is no sign
infection.
Root fillings can be remove through the
normal drilling process and
repeated.
I would go see another dentist.
