Blighted Ovum? Posted: 11-06-04 00:13am
Hi,
i just found out I am pregnant and need to
hear some other women's stories and
thoughts on what my doctor has put me
through. I went in at 5-6 weeks for an
ultrasound after concerns of an ectopic
pregnancy. The pregnancy was confirmed
not ectopic but the medical assistant who
did the us became worried that she
couldn't see anything except an empty sac
on the us. She told me to come back in 10
days to see if anything developed within
the sac. Meanwhile, I call the doctor and
talk to her nurse to find out why all the
concern -- I didn't think anything would
show up this early anyway. She told me I
should expect a blighted ovum or a twin
pregnancy not as far along in development
(based on my hcg levels). Is this
normal??? I thought most doctors told you
not to come in until 8 weeks because you
can't see anything prior to that. Reality
check please!! I have 7 more days to find
out if I have a viable pregnancy. Help!

I Had a Blighted Ovum Two Years Ago Posted: 04-12-05 13:22pm
First of all ((((hugs)))) to you. I know
how stressful it can be not knowing what's
going on. They can see signs of
development pretty early but the question
is always did they do the u/s too early
for an embryo to be visible? Which is
what you should hope for, I guess - that
you actually conceived later (by a week or
so) than you thought. I was dxd with a
blighted ovum at 10 weeks - we did two
more u/s to be sure, but that was what it
was (didn't mean I didn't have my hopes
dashed each time, tho). All it means is
that the egg didn't have what it needed to
become a fetus, but yet still managed to
send out pg signals and grow a sack. Very
frustrating, I know. I had morning
sickness like youwouldn't believe and it
was a real bummer to find out about that.
Anyway, here's hoping that yours will grow
in the next week. And as hard as this is
to hear - other than doing the things you
would do to be healthy in pregnancy anyway
- there is nothing you can do (or could
have done) to prevent a blighted ovum.
Nothing. (((hugs)))) and prayers.

I went in for my first ultrasound the
other day...And I could see the baby.
He/she's really tiny about an inch or so
not that big yet at all). But don't worry
just keep hoping and keep your fingers
crossed!

Hey marlie....I got the same thing. I
can't remember when my pregnancy symptoms
started and so when I went to the hospital
last week and they said I was only 5 weeks
pregnant (although I thought I was about 8
weeks) or had blighted ovum I was really
gutted. I did my maths and couldn't work
out which was more likely.
So, i'm looking at this sensibly....I
really want this baby, but if things don't
work out, I recon it's for a reason that I
am not aware of.
Do you get slightly brown/pinkish
discharge? I was told I was at 5 weeks,
which would make it 6 weeks tomorrow. I
have another scan on friday!!! I can't
believe how long away that seems.
The other thing is...My boobs are getting
so painful now, I really didn't sleep very
well last night! Ho-hum....Another day
closer to finding out...
I hope everything goes well for you and
that we both get the news that we want!
Xx

Went to the hospital this morning and had
a v.Scan. Saw our little alien...And the
heartbeat. Very reassuring....But still
keeping calm about the whole thing as we
are only 6.5 weeks and aren't out of the
woods yet.
