I have strong chemical smelling urine
right before I get a systemic yeast
infection. I was told that usually only
persons with aids will get systemic yeast
infections. I don't have aids. I came
about my self diagnosis by chance from a
tip from a friend and some oral yeast
medicine prescribed to my infant daughter.
I now take caprylic acid and all
symptoms (that were also diagnosed as
irritable bowel syndrome) have
disappeared. I still have, and probably
always will have problems with yeast.
Cutting out sugar helps mostly. I was
wondering if any one else has noticed this
connection - yeast and smelly urine.

When I started having unusual smelling
urine, I started to drink raw, unfiltered,
organic apple cider vinegar with my
drinking water. I drank lots of it for
several days. I believe this helped to
clean my kidneys. The smell went away and
it has not returned. I remember how
worried I was that something serious was
wrong with my kidneys. All tests that the
doctor did also showed nothing. I
recommend that you try this. It won't
hurt. I got used to the taste. Just pour
a little of the apple cider vinegar into a
glass of water. Drink a lot of it during
the day. I would love to know if it helps
you too. Please let me know.

Asparagus

I noticed about 2 weeks ago that my pee
STANK. I couldn't believe it. I DIDN'T
believe it. I thought there were some
chemicals in the toilet or something.
Then it happened a few more times, and
finally it happened in the shower so I
know my toilet theory is wrecked.
So I've been trying to think of foods I've
eaten lately that I'm not used to eating.
Asparagus is one, and these hot peppers my
neighbor gave me are another. The peppers
are from India and they don't really smell
like anything, so I'm leaning toward
asparagus.
Thought I'd throw that out there since the
one person mentioned asparagus &
broccoli.
Good luck!

I'm sorry for everyone, but I feel so much
better that I am not the only one. About
a week ago my urine began smelling really
foul. First it was like popcorn, now it is
like bacon. Strong bacon.....
I had a sinus infection and was on three
different rounds of antibiotic....nothing
worked. Now I have bacon pee.
I have tried drinking lots of water, even
thinking it was a yeast infection caused
by the antibiotics, and tried the yogurts
and the vaginal creams. Nothing has
helped.
help!

not sure what's going on

For the past month my urine has been
smelling really bad. Im not sure what it
is. It smells like for example lets say
someone unrinates in a toilet and that
urnine just sits there for a couple of
days. The smell gets worse. That's how
mines smells. I would much rather it be
smelling like popcorn. This smell is very
very offensive, even to me. I have also
noticed a weired feeling in my volva like
i'm coming on with a yeast infection but
it's not happening. I have also noticed
that the color of my urine has got very
dark. I am very worried because this has
never happend to me before and im ashamed
to mention it to anyone. If anyone knows
what may be the possibililty for this
please let me know, I am desperate for an
answer.

Welcome to the site..
I would highly recommend going to a doctor
to get a urine test. You can have a
urinary tract infection starting or
possibly an infection with your kidneys.
Are you having pain in the flank area?
Are you drinking enough fluids? Do you
have pain with increased fluid intake?

Have a test done!

If you have odd smelling urine, you should
be sure to get a test done for any
unpleasant bacteria. Bacteria like e-coli
have a fairly nasty smell and that's a
very common cause of UTIs/Cystitis (about
95% of them actually). Make sure that they
do a proper culture for it, which should
take about 5 days to do it properly, to
make sure that nothing is missed out. If
you want to do yourself a favour, try
getting hold of some Waterfall D-Mannose
as it's a very good supplement for
maintaining a healthy bladder and it'll
remove all the nasty bacteria too. But
first and foremost, have a test done. Also
if you do find that it is cystitis, DO NOT
drink cranberry juice (unless it is the
Proteus bacteria, in which case DO) since
almost all the bacteria will thrive in the
acidic environment. Lemon juice can help
however, since it has an alkalising effect
on the urine once metabolised (again
unless it's the Proteus bacteria which
thrives in the alkali).
I really hope that this helps you,
Chiyaki

Odd Urine Smell

I too have had an odd urine smell. I
thought that the smell was consistent with
having a hysterectomy, but possibly not.
I didn't notice a 'popcorn' smell, but
just an odd 'pissy' odor. When I started
drinking whey protein shakes, the odor
went away. I stopped the shakes and
haven't noticed the smell again lately.

Really rude smelling pee

My urine stinks way worse than any food or
food group combined. One guy kind of
flippantly in my opinion offered a cure if
we drank 5 pints of water, didn't smoke,
do drugs or drink and ate healthy. Well, I
already drink that much water and more,
and don't do drugs, smoke or drink and eat
healthy and my pee STILL STINKS! It
doesn't matter what time of day. Yes, it
is obviously stronger first thing in the
morning as expected but my daughter has
learned not to use my bathroom. She can
smell the pee long after I am finished.
When I first began noticing it, I had been
on new medication so I thought wow, I
can't wait to finish this.... But that was
5 months ago, and though I know alot of
meds can take a long time to totally
metabolize out of the body, this is
ranking ridiculous. I do eat broccoli but
rarely and broccoli is more of a gas
producer than stinky pee maker. I used to
eat much more broccoli and never had this
problem. My doctor visits, thus far have
not been enlightening.
It seems to be mainly a female problem or
maybe we are the only ones online looking
for answers.
I wish some great, knowledgeable urologist
would sign on to this site and
respond...OHHHHHHHH Yes! I have the
answers you and your families are
seeking.... Do this and viola!...regular
pee!

Anyone else notice a smelly urine after taking birth control?

I have been having strange smelling urine
for the past couple of months now, it
started after i had a baldder infection.
I also changed birth control pill the just
as i was getting over my baldder
infection.
A couple of days later i noticed a
onion/garlic kind of smell it totally
freaked me out, and didnt know what on
earth was going on with my urine. I
started to drink ALOT of water and thought
maybe it would get rid of the strange
smell, but no success. It doesnt always
smell feral just mainly in the morning and
as i usually tale my pill before bed i was
thinking it could be that but i really
have no idea. I should go get a doctor to
check me over.

When urine is sitting in the bladder all
night it can develop an odor. It wouldn't
hurt to consult with your doctor.

Urine smells like bacon...

I too have noticed that in the past 4
months, all of a sudden my urine has this
strong, bacon-like odour to it. It makes
me sick and self conscious...particularly
at work where we have a large women's
bathroom.
I've been researching the internet for
information and have seen the doctor. I
do not have a bladder infection, uterine
infection or a urinary tract infection.
I'm also not menopausal, although my
sister, who is, also has smelly urine.
I'm also not on any medication, nor do I
take any supplements whatsoever, in order
to eliminate any possible external item
that may be affecting me this way.
So far, however, I have found that if I do
consume more fruits like watermelon, that
for some reason I don't have that fried
bacon smell eminating from my pee. I've
never been one to drink a lot of liquids,
save for coffee, but then my urine would
take on a coffee scent. But even that,
lately, wasn't the case.
I stumbled upon the melon remedy by
accident. So far, it's working...and it's
not like you have to eat a lot of it
either. I just have about a cup full of
bite size chunks of watermelon...or any
other melon but I find watermelon works
best so far...and that funky pee isn't
there.
I intend to inquire my doctor for other
tests, but as I mentioned, so far, eating
watermelon seems to be taking care of my
problem. Have no idea why.
