I'm Back, Update On Everything Posted: 11-08-04 18:20pm
I'm finally back, we were without internet
for almost a week but that was the last
thing on my mind.
Wednesday we went to the dr at 2 like I
had told you guys.. We get there, both me
and eric were crying.. My mom is the
nurse at my drs office.. She was crying..
My grandmother was there and crying(my
mom called her and told her something was
wrong with owen).
The dr told us that owen indeed only had 1
kidney, and that there was a problem with
his brain, I imediately started completely
bawling my eyes out. He told us that owen
had whats called hydrocephalis (excuse the
spelling) and that it is a backup of
spinal fluid in the brain but that it was
mild. It causes a ventricle in the brain
to dialate, and if it would get worse than
it was then it would cause brain damage.
He then gave us all the information on
it.
Thursday we went to a specialist in
pittsburgh for a level 2 ultrasound. They
said that the dialation of the ventricle
was very mild and that they wouldn't even
call it hydrocephalis, but they'd call it
ventricular magnaly (sp?) and that as it
is right now there is no brain damage, the
radiologist came in and talked to us. He
told us that he'd be suprised if it got
any worse but that i'd have to go back
down every few weeks for an ultrasound and
if it would get worse they'd deliver owen
and put a shunt in his brain to drain the
fluid. He said that usually this only
happens when theres something wrong with
the spine, but he said it looked perfect.
They also checked for downs syndrome,
cleff palet, anything that they could
check for and everything looked good. So
right now we're very hopeful. Their gonna
do a brain ultrasound and a brain scan of
him once he's born to see if maybe there
is something else wrong that they couldn't
see via an ultrasound.
I'll keep you guys update, thanks sooo
much for the prayers, I know they
helped!

I know it can be very difficult to raise a
special needs child if thats what it comes
to but I know you have a heart of gold and
can be there.. And I will be praying that
he is safe and sound when the time comes
for delivery!
