22, 7 Abortions, Ready to Get Pregnant Now. Posted: 11-12-04 14:15pm
Im 22, I have had 7 abortions in the past
with the first one at 18 years old, all
out of stupidity. Im ready to have a
child now, but it seems like the more
abortions i've had, the harder it is to
concieve. I've been with my boyfriend
for 3 years now and I had my last abortion
by him in april. We have sexual
intercourse about twice a week cause he's
always busy. But it just seems like it
was so easy before, but now that I want
it, its hard. Could it be my past
abortions thats making it unable to get
pregnant??

If your abortions had harmed you
physiologically, the symptoms would have
manifested themselves by now and you would
have most likely gone to the doctor. Are
you sure you want to get pregnant now?
I'm 22 as well and I couldn't imagine a
pregnancy at this time but if it's what
you want then i'm happy for you :d .
First, you should try to make your life as
stress free as possible. Stress is an
amazing thing and it's effects on the body
are hard to guage. Stress could be a
reason why you're having trouble
conceiving. Also, this seems to be
something you really want and worrying
about it all the time can't be helping the
process. Take a deep breath and focus on
the fun of trying to conceive, if you
catch my drift . Secondly, if
you are regular, then you should be able
to chart your most fertile time with a
calendar. If not, investing in one of
those ovulation monitors could help you
out. Once you figure our when you're
ovulating, it may be easier for you to
conceive. Two weeks may be enough, it
may not, it all depends on ovulation, try
to have sex as much as possible during the
week you're ovulating. Thirdly, if your
last ab was in april, the hormone levels
in your body could still be fluctuating
which could make it harder to conceive.
Technically, if you're really worried
about conception, you should go to the
doctor who will tell you to keep on trying
for the next six to twelve months and if
you're not pregnant by that time, they may
run some diagnostic tests. Overall,
don't let it get you down. Some people
try *forever* to get pregnant. Just
relax and have fun trying. If after some
time, you're still not pregnant, then see
a doctor. Good luck!

For one, the older you are, the less
fertile you are. You are a lot more
fertile at age 17 than age 22, but that
doesn't mean that you can not get
pregnant. It just means that it might
not happen the first time you try.
Fertility usually lasts until menopause
around age 45-55.
Also look at the time of imtercourse
around 2 weeks after your last menstrual
period as the time you are most likely to
ovulate and thus the time you have the
greatest chance for getting pregnant.
Again, each woman's cycle is unique, so
there might be some days discrepancy one
direction or the other. Secondly, you
might be taking some pills or supplements
that makes it harder for you to become
pregnant. Are you taking any steroids or
weightloss medications?
And in that line of questioning are you so
thin that you don't ovulate anymore? You
need at least 9% bodyfat to be able to
ovulate and menstruate, and preferably you
need to be above that.
Is there any irregualrity in your menses?
Have the type and timing of your periods
changed over the last couple of years?
Have you started experiencing unuual pain
with menses or with intercourse? Have
you been on depo-provera shots for
birthcontrol (it can take up to one year
after stopping the shots before normal
fertility returns.
Also, has your partner been exposed to
unusual chemicals, is he wearing briefs
instead of boxer shorts, and does he spend
a lot of time in the hot tub (all of the
above can affect male fertility.
Does either of you smoke?
All the above factors can affect
pregnancy, but most likely, if you try for
a couple of cycles, there is a good chance
for you becoming pregnant since you were
able to do so in the past.
